TPC2007 - In Brief and a Few Pics

This year the Palar Challenge was conducted over 2 phases i.e. Day#1 & Day#2.
We had a total of 11 Participants on Day#1 with 3 Drop outs after Day#1
MG410
1992 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80
CJ3B –Petrol (F4-134) x2
MM540X4
CJ3B –Diesel (CJ340DP & CL340DP) x3

Day#1 – Started with a Lec-Dem of Sand Driving Techniques and Ascending and Descending Techniques.

The two teams were allocated a sand quarry to practice for 15 minutes and then we progressed into the Event.

The first 2 sand quarries were scored for technical driving skills and errors were penalized.
The next obstacle was a 3 storey sand wall followed by a water obstacle through which participants demonstrated fording and driving in deep water (500mm-700mm)

Mahindra & Mahindra had sent one of their senior managers Mr. Sudheer Kashyap as an observer for this event and the sponsored the Trophies for this years event.

Dropout at the end of Day#1 – 2 MM540s and 2 CJ3B –Diesels and 1 CJ3B –Petrol, some of the participants were accommodated on other JEEPs

Another 6 Participants joined us for Day#2.
CJ500D x2
Nissan patrol
MG413W x2
CJ3B –Diesel (CJ340DP & CL340DP) x2

Day#2 started with a brief sand drive and then a Winching and Recovery Techniques Demo.
Then we proceeded to a cross-country section of rapid 21+ short to medium climbs.

This was followed by 2 Team events
i) Tyre Changing without a Jack (or any lifting device) was won by Delhi JEEPers on a MG410; Mr. Sudheer Kashyap, Laxman Vishwanath, Adhiraaj Singh, Vidhyun Singh & Sarvinder Singh.

ii) Vehicle Recovery with 2 Rear Wheels dug in was won by Mr. Uday Bhan Singh (UBS), Rajamohan, Rajkumar, Rajesh and Srinath. Each team picked up 3 vehicles from a lot and had to use two 4WDs to pull out one 4WD.

The Grand Finale to The Palar Challenge 2007 was a timed run through a sand quarry consisting of 2 major Descents and 2 major Climbs, the final climb had an approach filled with about 500mm water, this slowed down all the vehicles.
The best timing for the participants on this course was
1) 1:51 mins MM540DP - Jatin
2) 1:55 mins MM540XD – Laxman Vishwanath
3) 2.45 mins CL340DP - Joshua
The record timing was set by Patrick (Marshal) in his CJ3B with XDP4.9 at 1:36 mins

Regards,

Arka (More pics are awaited)

Organisers for TPC2007

Hi Guys,

In addition to the participants, there were 7 vehicles for the Marshals.
I was one of the Organisers/Marshals.

We tried out all the sand quarries and obstacles well before the event and had a lot of practice during the 7 preparatory trips before the event.

Regards,

Arka

That is a truly fun event. Loved the pics!

Side question: Have you/any of your friends, ever tried taking their bikes into that quarry? esp that incline?
