re: Bangalore BHPians Offroad Meet-up

Sounds very exciting.

I drive a Fortuner 4X4 AT but has not done too much off-roading, especially on off-road tracks like this. Hope this group is open to adding people like me and provide needed guidance.

I am expecting to be back in Bangalore by Dec and will look forward to be part of some of the future adventures.

NO NO NO!

Tying to the alloy and looping the belt! Both are a strict no!

Please get yourselves formally educated. Stresses will be there on the aluminium rim and it can give away at speed!

Just for my education, when a Harrier is stuck with no towing point behind and front portion of the car is not accessible, what are the options for towing out? And yes it's just 1 pull that moved the vehicle out.

I am certain your training covers all these, but just for the benefit of this forum and all those who follow teambhp a small demonstrative video will be very insightful. Looking forward to it.

+1

Please include me too in the next sojourn. I have booked XUV 300 W8 [O] after reading a lot; and as usual Team BHP had all the praises on the beast.

Great to see Bangaloreans making the most of the rains and the amazing morning weather.

Plz give a shout out the next time you are headed this way or any trail driving in south Bangalore. It's not far from my place and there are a number of other trails around Kanakapura Road.

Throwing in a pic of my choice of poison for trails

The 4WD system works well with the ECU & GB to help overcome most obstacles.
That's promising feedback for the ScorpioN. Thanks for sharing that.

The feedback seems to be quite similar to what Tejas@perioimpl had echoed on Instagram I believe.

Not swapped for the OTR. He switched over to the BFGs on Day-1 itself I believe.

We were quite impressed too. Based on what we read & watched online, the Scorpio-N seemed very underwhelming and quite compromised in an offroad scenario. I'm glad to know that it's not the case. Ofcourse we haven't done hardcore offroading with it and the car's intention is not that either. Can it do it? I don't know. But I feel an experienced offroad driver can push it much further than what most online reviews say it can do.

Another point being, ROG_AKs S-N was running on a much more capable BFG ATs, the contribution of which cannot be belittled. I would not be able to comment on how the stock tires would perform. I would however hope to see MRF or Ceat produce an A/T in the stock size.

Surprising that it has no points in the rear!!!

Difficult to say what to do without being present.

In most cases dropping the air pressure to half or even till 10psi would give the car enough traction to move out seeing the kind of mud in the pics (again speculating). Maybe assisted by pushing from the front. It's a front wheel drive right with the front wheels powered, the side to side movements of the steering while backing out may help.
Ofcourse make sure you have means to air up again.

If not, then jack up each wheel, put mats, rocks, whatever you can find to gain traction. Lower the car on it and back out. You might need to create an entire track following the front wheels till firm ground. Since it's a 2wd and not sunk in that much, only doing this for powered wheels would also suffice unless she has sunk then in the on powered wheels, just clear a pathway by shovelling (using hands if no shovel) so that those wheels to not encounter resistance.

Worse case, try to find a way to the front but don't hook it to rims.

The OEM speak would be that front points are for someone to recover you, rear points are for you to recover someone else. In this case, there is none in the rear.

From what I have seen while being underneath the vehicle, a strap around the rear axle will work, there is a risk of damaging the rear bumper and then getting someone to crawl through the mud

re: Bangalore BHPians Offroad Meet-up

Thanks deb for the writeup and amazing shots Couldn't get any free time to post till now. As a newbie to off-roading, this was a great starting point to get to know the basics. A big shoutout to soumobakshi for all his assistance.

The Scorpio N lived up to my expectations. It is not a hardcore off-roader like the Thar, but it gets the job done in most situations and is a great touring machine. The BFGs proved their worth and have been excellent so far, they just about fit and glad they do. Overall a great experience to understand what the Scorpio N is capable of. Hopefully I will have the confidence to push it a bit more in the next excursion we have.

Thanks Sheel. The ScorpioN is running on 265/60 R18 BF Goodrich K02 ATs.
Thanks for sharing this amazing write up, pics and video!
Another questions regarding the Scorpio N's tyres- Are there any fouling issues noticed so far?

Dada, is there any rubbing on the fender lining with the 265?
