Participants - All members who register with a vehicle (maximum 3 per vehicle) will be called participants. (3 vehicles will make a team)

Organizers - members who do not own a 4WD can help in organizing the event. However we prefer members from Chennai, because they can participate in the recce's for the event and other preparatory work.

How about a few TeamBhpians making a team (3vehicles) and 9 participants

One should be very careful when pointing out mistakes.
Sometimes, the pointing out is the mistake.

We can make full accomodation arrangements for you, rippergeo.
There's atleast a month for the event. Im sure you could find good deals on air tickets. Moreover,Cochin is a night's journey by train too. Consider this a personal invitation.
We hope to give you a great experience for a lifetime.

hey, rippergeo, glad that you are eager for the pics, I am sure there will be lots of them once the event happens : we wouldn't let such a big event pass by like that

Also, if you want you can join us in Bangalore for OTR's that the Bangalore Jeep_Thrills members go out for.

Just returned yesterday from the Coorg OTR.

Let me know and you can join me for the next OTR.

Cheers,
Khan Sir, I will be most delighted to join in a BLR-OTR, please pm me and keep me posted of the next event.

I did see the innocent Coorg stream which got the best of you in a sticky mess.

Thanks Sir John

(Un)Fortunately, a friend is getting married on short notice on 15th Aug. I will be occupied on 15th with that and a school get together in Mahabs TTDC on 16th and 17th. I just want to come for about 3-4 hours on maybe 16th morning / 17th afternoon.

Dumb question - How far from mahabs is Palar?

EDIT:
Found it here on the Palar Challenge site - CONTACTS
"But this means nothing (remember - men don't ask for directions) - so download the route chart here
"

TPC2008 - Participants Brief

Hello TBhpians,

THE PALAR CHALLENGE 2008
PARTICIPANTS’ BRIEF

Day # 1 (15-08-08)

The vehicles will be organized into teams. And the event will be one long team dash from start to finish. Each team has to cover a certain distance on the riverbed while passing through several special stages.

Special Stages will include:
(a)Sand quarries: average height of the ascents and descents will be 20 feet with slopes up to 60O.
(b)Water Crossings: depths going up to 2 feet.
(c)Recovery: action to be taken if a vehicle gets stuck.

Scoring for individual vehicles:
(a)For descents: 10 points
(b)For ascents: 50 points on 1st attempt: 25 pts on 2nd attempt (only 2 attempts)
(c)Crossing the finish line: 100 points
(d)Stages have to be continuous. If a vehicle misses a stage it will not get any further points.
(e)If a vehicle fails an ascent, it can bypass that ascent and continue collecting points on the other ascents and descents in that stage.

Scoring for teams:
(a)All the vehicle scores will be added to the team score.
(b)The team with the best finishing time will get 100 pts; 2nd will get 75pts; 3rd will get 50pts and 4th will get 25pts
(c)Finishing time will be taken from the minute the 1st vehicle of the team crosses the start line till the last vehicle crosses the finish line.
(d)Recoveries have no scores but are crucial to save time and keep the team moving.

Day # 2 (16-08-08)

Day 2 will be slower paced. Participants who join on Day 2 will be dovetailed into the previous day’s teams. The special stages will be similar to Day 1 but in deference to the newbies the time pressure will not be so severe.

Post lunch there will be competitions for:
(a)Individual timed runs.
(b)Tyre changing without lifting devices.
(c)Timed recovery.

Once back at Parke-firme, there will be a quiz test for the teams based on the learnings of the event. These scores will also be added to the team tallies.

Thanks to the numerous sponsors we got, the following prizes are up for grabs:
(a)Overnight getaways at luxury resorts
(b)Gift vouchers at fine dining restaurants
(c)Multi tray tool boxes
(d)2-ton hydraulic bottle jacks
(e)12 V Tyre Inflators
(f)Rolling trophies

Note: As a special gesture, Adventure Zone will waive charges for spouses (legally married and of the opposite sex) and children below 12, as in previous years these expenses have deterred our families from joining the excitement. Only the food hampers will be charged.

Costs?

What would be the approx. costs for room and board at the Adventure Zone for the duration of TPC? Hoping to learn something about offroading by watching the experts. Thanks.
