Samurai has a "field" day nowadays, especially with his new jeep, which he believes is better than his GV

TPC2008 - A review

Hello TBhpians

The Palar Challenge 2008

14-08-08
We drove to Maj.SRRoy’s house to pick up the 1Ton and 2 JEEPs and the 1Ton were to head to Adventure Zone ( Home).

Due to the lack of fuel in and around Chennai we got delayed and finally decided to drive up to Madurantakam (95Kms). Filled 3x 18L of petrol in the Jerry Cans and 4.6L in an emergency Can and decided to drive the 1Ton.

We decided to drive because of 2 reasons; 1 make up for lost time, tried towing it and it was a very slow procedure. 2 Driving it would give me a feel of the gears and the engine in general.

Started at 1200 hrs Reached AZ at 1530hrs and took us 16.5L of petrol not bad I thought for a 2800kg GVW truck.

In the evening the participants started to trickle in. At 2030hrs we started the Lec-Dem for First-Aid techniques; these were conducted by my instructors from RLSS (I) Chennai.

After that we briefed the participants about the event and concluded the registration procedure and had dinner.

15-08-08
All the participants headed towards Chenglepet Bridge on NH45.
By 0830hrs we were on the riverbed and 3 vehicles headed towards the various Special Stages (SS). Each SS was marked by a Flag.

10th SS – 4 ways Water-Crossing - Arka (MM540XD) & Sub. Ramanan (retd.) & Mhd. Ali (Nissan 4W73) & Maj.SSRoy. (MM540DI)

After that we drove back to camp and did a quick run through of the Life-Saving techniques, and had dinner.

16-08-08

We had a late start which got further delayed by the unavailability of Diesel.
Those who had extra fuel shared it with participants.
Finally we were on the riverbed by 0945hrs.

Nice succinct report Arka -- like a military log book EoD report. Eagerly waiting for the pictures & the videos.

BTW, Vikram won the individual/most performing 4x4 for his MG413W but your post above mentions him as second. Was this the same thing or some other prize?

Cheers,

Pictures of Day1 (15-08-08)

Hi Guys,

Not many pics were taken as the participants hardly had any time to take pictures, because of the cross-country driving, between Special Stages.

Dear khan bhai,

The Most performing 4wd trophy was for the team as a whole and was TPC 2008 official trophy. The individual timed runs was won by Vikram even though he was second because Ali who came first was from organisers team and wasnt a participant. Vikram won a portable air compresser for best timed run in participants category.

vinod

Same event. The most performing 4WD was created for 2007, but we could not change the plate before TPC2008.

This Year it was Winner of TPC2008

And officially the best timing was of Mhd.Ali on the MM540XD, as announced at the Prize ceremony, but there could have been some confusion as he is on the organizing team (Mechanic)

PS - Vinod & Vikram were very (very) happy and did not follow the results closely.
Regards,

Arka

Vinod, there is no prize for the individual event. Only recognition!

@Arka, official or unofficial doesnt matter. What matters is that we had a wonderful event and experience.

Md. Ali was faster than me in the event as he had the opportunity to be with you guys on a recce before. Also his mastery of the jeep [which is Arka's havin bald sandgrip tyres and LSD both front and rear] kind of made him beat my timing by 16 secs. Ofcourse he was AMAZING.

You guys, [the organrisers] said i had the best time - now who am i to refuse that ?

BTW, am sure if i get a second chance at the run, i would better my time as i had made a couple of mistakes!
