If you are roaming the jungles, it is useful to know your snakes. Going by the green color (hope it is not WB error) I would think it is vine snake, a harmless one, but likes to poke at shiny objects like eyes.

Yes, it is a vine snake. Up here we have it's close cousin the reticulated snow snake. All white in color so as to be almost invisible in the snow, it waits in ambush and trips people walking on snow or ice and then can be heard laughing in derision as it dives back into the snow drifts.

Actually Sam its not the vine snake.it is the green pit viper.notice the triangular shaped head which only vipers have.it does have venom but usually doesnt deliver a fatal bite.also,vine snakes have a very slender body,just as thin as the normal index finger, and they are long.

@pdev: u guys are lucky.please dont go around doing such things as pinning down snakes with sticks without knowing about the species.could cost you your life if bitten.

I think you are right, I overlooked the size of the head. In my area we don't have green vipers, only russell's viper which I have often seen.

I sure was there... came there at approx 10 am from puna.. didnt find you guys so went up alone in my safari... all the way till the shiva temple and returned by 130pm...

oh we were late on that day thats the reason why we couldnt see each other.
we are planning to go to rajmachi on this saturday night..
