Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore

I happened to bump into some old, lost and forgotten folders on my computer and found some nice pictures from the various OTR's that I have been to in past around Bangalore.

Thought of sharing some of them with you all here.

The following set of pictures is from the Ramanagram OTR that we had been to in 2007.

Notice Vinay's jeep climbing up a very steep incline. (BTW, My Gypsy also did this incline but I don't have pictures for that :-))

This was the also OTR, where one of the jeepers broke his steering wheel rod into 2 . (IIRC, member vaspro has bought that MM540 now)

These pictures remind me that it's been along time since we went to Ramanagram for an OTR. There was a time when we used to go there literally every month and got fed up of it and now it's been a year

Cheers,

Nice Pics Shahnawaz. Especially, loved the pics of the CJ3b ascending and descending the hillock. Keep them coming, gives us an idea of OTR locations around Bangalore.

OT: These are the very hills where many scenes from the blockbuster Sholay was shot. Ramanagaram = Ramgarh in the movie.

mmmmm.. same place -- maybe. not sure. IIRC those hills were to the left hand side of Ramanagram (as you go from Bangalore). This OTR spot is on the RHS of Ramangram main road

Anyway. who cares. :-)

Will post some more of a camping + OTR soon.

Great pictures. That terrain is so much like what we have around Hyderabad. The pictures of the Jeep going up and down that steep rock face are wild!

Wow great pics there especially the CJ3 climbin uphill. But I was just wondering what kind of protection do you ensure when you organize such events. I dont think the CJ3 or any other jeep has roll cage just in case it took a tumble especially since the terrain in the photo looks pretty formidable. The person in the Gypsy doesnt seem to even have his seat belt on and its also open door. One good jerk and the guy goes flying out. Just wondering

The only protection we ensure is 'common sense'. Yes, off-roading is a dangerous sport/activity and all of us are aware of it.

Basically, every one is responsible for his/her well being himself.

OK, this one was near Pearl Valley Bangalore during March this year. This was combined with a overnight camping +cooking + morning OTR jaunt.

One of the good and exciting OTR jaunts. You know, once you camp and cook food and have a nice OTR, you don't feel like coming back to civilization.

Notice the crows having a feast in the pictures and do yo see a 'Khukhri' in one of the pictures? Wonder if that would have saved the jeepers from wild animals

Notice the cooking/fire utensils etc. Believe me, camping + cooking + OTR combined is one of the best things that one can indulge in. Some of the jeeper's friends had come in cars for camping.

BTW, coming back to the OTR terrain; this is a relatively easy terrain in parts and great for a beginner to get his teeth wet in OTR/4x4 techniques. Having said that, there are part of this terrain that are simply treacherous for the vehicle and the 'under body' can get severely hit/damaged if one makes a slightest mistake.

Now these pictures remind me that a camping + cooking + morning OTR is long overdue.

Shahnawaz, Your pictures got me stumped mate.
I have been reading all the posts on 4x4 for a while and the fever is catching up!!!

Will (and Must) join You folks on an OTR event as an attendar, before I could gulp the years and experience becoming a listener and player.

Envy You folks for Your talent and spirit.

Nice pics Khan. Few of them look scary (lone jeep climbling the hill). I never did these kind of off roading...looks to be very exiting.

Solgere 07

Ok, these set of pictures are from Solgere trail in 07.

Let me start with some nice pics so the you feel happy.

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06878.jpg

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06900.jpg

On the way to solgere, there is the kanakpura rock that we all do on a compulsory basis. Some pictures of that.

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06862.jpg

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06850.jpg

Now some pictures that will in very very soft way show the issues/difficulties that can happen on an OTR. BTW, all this happened on this very OTR.

Look at this jeep. Possibly the worst way to get stuck -- like between devil & the deep sea. Poor fellow can't move forward or backward. Had to be jacked/lifted, stones put and then pulled out.

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06842.jpg

Look at this another jeep -- end of OTR for him. and yes, this can easily take any where between 1 - 2 hours for diagnosis, chaos, solution etc. It really helps when you have folks who know the jeeps and can get their hands dirty and fix things.

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06866.jpg

Pictures of Off-Road jaunts around Bangalore-dsc06867.jpg

This is another jeep with some engine/electrical issues IIRC. Has to be towed in the end.

So dear friends, off-roading is great fun but one has to be prepared for eventualities like the above ones.

Cheers,

Coorg 07 OTR -- One of the best muddy/slushy OTR's

Oh, this one is my favourite as far as the muddy/slush OTR's go. These kind of OTR's test you out thoroughly and the tyoe of tyres you have practically decides if you will make it out on your own or will you get winched out.

Only the NDMS rules here and even the A/T, radials etc are of ZERO value here.

And yo know what? I had gone there in this OTR with 'car tread tyres'. Just check out the tread pattern in my tyres. Oh my god. I was really brave (in a foolhardy manner) to even attempt to do the Coorg OTR in those tyres.

Just look at the facial expressions -- horrified. In pictures it looks great but in reality, this scares the hell out of you.

This year's Coorg OTR was a breeze compared to the 07 one. It was a cakewalk. Have alook at the below 2 posts for comparison of how the terrain changed nature and how much of a difference does rain make on the same terrain.
