Add a recce being done also before any OTR or any dirt track rides as such.

A few quick responses:

- I don't know how you associate fast driving with rash driving. I drive fast - within my capacity and that of my car - but have not been in a situation where I have endangered public safety, mine or those of my co-passengers.

- each person has his own limitations and strengths, let us not generalise about long-duration drives, sleeping or eating issues. I am human too, but I can manage without any serious eating for 2-3 days at a stretch (eating only dry fruits, biscuits and dry fruits), and work/ drive without sleep too. Each one to his own. We are aware of our limitations and responsibilities. In my driving style, I find the frequent stops many of you do to eat and relax totally distracting and affecting concentration. I have driven for 18 days at a stretch doing 10,000 kms in difficult terrain in North East India/ Central India as well as done 12,000 kms in 15 days, without any problems whatsoever (and the latter was not even a fast drive, simply a drive down India's west and east coasts). I am sure several of you have had such experiences in India and abroad.

- I used the word double standards in the context that when someone drives 36 hours non-stop and talks about it, there is something wrong with it, and such posts are deleted. But when IMO dangerous OTR is publicised in the forum, that is acceptable.

- Maybe I should point out that I have done OTR driving as long ago as in 1987 - in case someone got his facts wrong - although I do not talk about it, and am aware of the respective dangers of OTR and highway driving. I have also gone on OTR with jeep_thrills recently (as a passenger) and I have no reason to change my opinion.

- By simple statistical analysis (of my past record), I can only reiterate that I do not see how I have posed or pose any danger to public safety.

- My final point is that each one of us has his own passions - highway vs OTR, or both - and I think we all should have a free say in the forum, and not face any restraints in saying so.

OTR is a sport just like F1, Track racing, Rallying, etc., the dangers of it are understood well by the participants. I don't see the point in comparing a sport to driving in public highways. I'll end with that note.

Thanks for loading your pictures, chandan.

I had to rev it in 4L to make it up one slippery climb after sliding back twice.
The picture where Vikram is trying to push the Safari up is the situation described above.

Quote:
It did get stuck in the sand (with 4 people on board) but with some help, I was able to get out.
The picture where people are in front of the Safari is when it got stuck in the sand and we had to be pushed back to firmer ground.

@Hrag: At 4L, your torque of 300Nm is multiplied by 2.48. So, you're effectively using 750Nm (without considering transmission losses).

And apart from K_S' gypsy, the Safari was the only other vehicle to have an LSD at the rear.
So, technically, you had the most powerful vehicles in the scene.
The weight and the overhangs are a different story though.

One more jeep, Kittigadu's MM550, had the factory fitted LSD.

PS: Mine has lockers. Not LSD .

see you at Yercaud anna.
