BTW, is that polythene wrapped on your step board being shredded to pieces in some of the photos due to offloading and the bushes?
Thats the plastic shredded due to offroading and bushes.
Before we went on the trip, the plastic was almost intact, and now it was in shreds, We disposed of the hanging bits at phalodi

Now this would have been the area of truly flat salt pan for you to try. Area south of the road and salt works is well traveled but the area north is hardly used by locals. Just at the start of salt pan, coming from Bap, there is a ramp down on to lake bed towards left. Then it is pure fun drive across for ten odd kilometers. BUT since you also did Sambhar lake bed you did not miss the fun.

Nice idea if you can post the GPS track for other advetureres to follow. I do not know if forum allows attachments like that.

I'm glad you did. It was beginning to look like some of the sedans where the owners refuse to take the plastic off the seats for a year!

I will attach GPS track for the same stretch in the evening.
As for 2WD karte hain, I presume then October and February are different. For example sambhar lake had a lot of water, and therefore could driver through only a smaller stretch.
Even there, instead of hard flat ground, it was sandy, even in 4WD, I was limited to 80kmph, full throttle on 4th gear and she would not go above 2800-3000rpm.
It was like racing on compacted sand, rather than a salt flat.
I think cooking sun in the winters will make the surface better, but for now it was damp. I touched the surface, to confirm, and indeed, it was damp.
When I post pics of the Sambhar lake, you will be able to make out.
At some stretches tracks made be jeeps were so deep that a car would touch engine sump.

The seat covers came of in days. Foot guard covers stayed on because we saw no reason to take them off

No Idly, No Vada... Only Sambhar

On return leg, we decided to drive "through sambhar lake"
There were 2 options, Tarmac road, or "own road"
The Lake, not very drivable it looked

The Tarmac

thankfully the water ended, and we could get off the wretched tarmac
We got onto the lake bed,

Destination was the hill. I made a mistake here. I took to the right off the hill, so my sambhar section was short, if I had made to the left, I would have saved 30 minutes to NH, and would have done more lake bed driving

that small spec you see is the local wildlife, the Jeep
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-396204117_ihvuel.jpg
I started to pick up speed, but max I think I went to 90
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-396204337_54sdbl.jpg
The Culprit was the terrain. Back at the start I had touched the lake bed, and it was pretty damp, and soft. This meant slippery terrain, and I did not have enough torque in 5th gear, it was sandy, so 2800rpm whereabouts in 4th gear was the max I did.
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-396204860_chkrrl.jpg
Rear view, this is where we came from. Normally a high speed drive would have dust billowing like anything, but this time due to damp soil, hardly a dust-storm, merely a whimper
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-396206191_ipljel.jpg

After that we got off the lake and spotted Sambhars

Who bolted on seeing us

But I was too lazy to chase offroad, so thats the last pic of the journey "bye bye"

Offroading on the banks of Kosi, near corbett

Since we had an evening to kill, went to banks of river kosi.
Initially off the main road it was just a dirt track, later it turned into a rocks + sand combo. As you cannot go zoom on rocks, I could not maintain momentum into sand, but still she pulled through with little drama
Some pics
After the sand

After this we changed location. This was an easier track, navigable by car also with careful driving, but the views were nice

Nice Pics tsk, Maybe you could have done most of it in 2WD and shift to 4wd - H on the fly under 20 kph when you are losing the momentum! This way the powersliding would have been more enjoyable!

Sand and incline in 2WD... I don't think so. I actually tried 2WD mode in some places, but the rear kept sinking in

Corbett satellite images and GPS data

This is where we went
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-corbett.jpg
The blue narrow river we crossed hardly had any water, but lots of stones followed by sand.
There are other trails also in the route, but we did not try them due to lack of time

Nice Pics TSK. Looks like you put your SUV to the kind of use it was meant for. I have lot of respect for SUV owners who firstly have a 4x4 version and secondly use it to go in to the wilderness.

Finally time to update this thread again!!

1. Somewhere on the NH22 near Jeori, lies a small dirt trail, leading to a small waterwall. Its natures car wash
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-491737992_gmlvwl.jpg
2. At the village of Roghi, 4kms from Kalpa the road ends, and starts the dirt track, from Lord Dalhousies times. Its supposed to be used by goats and cattle only. But sometimes big white elephants also venture on that trail

3. On NH22 near Rackham, goes a loose sand trail down to the river. A good picnic spot
Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys-492646796_zkzqhl.jpg

4. Near chitkul at the end of Sangla valley, there are numerous dirt trails, you can take if you dare!
