Come on Mpower, Raid-de-Himalaya is hardly a weekend fun drive.

We are discussing a day trip around NCR, not a week long raid that takes a full year to prepare for.

If you have some suggestion for a day trip around NCR, that would be appreciated.

Regards,

But Raid is not an OTR, it is a rally. Lots of 2WD vehicles do it.

Hmm...why was I thinking that the raid is flagged off from Delhi? Must be because there's lot of Delhi guys in it.

Well yes, raid is not quite an OTR but its not a rally either as in its not speed based. I guess its a 'raid' ...a sport of its own.

We had a active member called BadCheetah and he was into rallying. He had also part of the team organized INRC Delhi rally few years ago. He took me on some mild-off roading near Delhi on the rally route...forget where exactly but it was UP.

I would like to join in any OTR organised around the NCR region as well. The weather seems to be excellent for an off road event. I have a Gypsy.

Hey tsk1979,..why dont we touch base with the Delhi chapter of jeep thrills for a meet. Great way to get initiated into the world of no-nonsense off roading !!

A jeep has been on my radar for a year now !! Who knows this might be the first step for me.

Between you, GD, Suman we're alreday 3-4,- 4x4's (is GD's a 4x4?)

My Safari is a 4x4. The Scorp is 2WD. Scorp 4x4s are far & few. Those who have, don't sell.

Keep your eyes off mine! A Sunday trip around NCR would be good. The area around Damdama lake, off the Sohna-Faridabad road has some decent off-road trails. GD, your GPS would come in handy there for real-time satellite maps.
Do you have Google maps also loaded on your Garmin or only the proprietary maps? We can scour the terrain and look for a nice route.

Cheers,

I'm trying to keep my eyes off, but....

I don't know or think that Google maps can be loaded on to Garmin. I use proprietary maps that was loaded and upgraded by Garmin. Now no upgrades as this model is discontinued and they have also shifted the development platform.

I am part of both the JeepThrills and Northern India Offroad Club groups. I own a Safari 4x2 and plan to buy a MM540/550. I have been to a few OTRs with the Jeep group - you should be able to take your 4x4 Safari if you dont mind the paint getting scratched. The route taken has many thorn bushes with narrow lanes! There is a OTR being planned for Nov 22nd. Assembly point is in front of the DLF Golf Course (Phase V).

As posted by another member, contact details of the group mods are given below:

Hey Preet, nice to hear that you've joined the Jeepthrills group & participating with the Safari. I must make it for one of the meets, someday...sometime
