About the sound, we'll talk in person. And since you've made me "feel young", maybe i could do this sound thing for you too!!

Thanks Headers for giving value for my POV.
First, I was stupid to do that obstacle in someone else's vehicle without knowing its mechanicals. I could have got away in the Prowler, I'll explain why below.
It was not a impossible crossing, the precautions were taken - 1. checked the sand consistancy around the pit. 2. The depth of water was walked, measured and compared with the vehicle. 3. Sinking of sand was analysed. 4. Entry and exit angles were checked.
We did everything about the terrain, but nothing about the vehicle where we got caught. I planned it in such a way that the moment the 540 dipped in, there was a slight climb and I believed that it would make it, so the engine will be out and even if I get stuck only the rear part will be stuck. But it didn't happen, the moment I went in the engine stalled and stopped before the climb. After we recoverd the 540, I found that the air filter's intake tube was brought near the radiator and was angled down for about 4 inches as if it was planned ahead to drink water. So, the moment the 540 went in the first thing to happen was it sucked water. If I had checked the engine bay before, I would have turned the bend upwards and MAYBE I could have made it. Now, Prowler has a snorkel and has a better chance of making it.
So, my POV is, don't take any small detail for granted. Unless you have detailed knowledge about both the vehicle and the terrain, don't try any obstacle.

Doc,

I know the prowler has a snorkel but taking the height of the engine bay, wouldn't it have been a problem because the whole engine bay would have gone under water.

But again provided the front cleared the water with the momentum, it could have been a scenario where just the rear is stuck and even then going by the how the sand kept filling in around the edges, the prowler could have come out easily.

But again sir, I think you took the best desicion considering what we knew about the siuation then. That MM540 was pretty tall.

Bala, Doc, I doubt the Prowler would have come out of that obstacle, inspite of snorkel etc. cos the sand was like quicksand sucking everything IN.

The decision to take the 540 came about as it was the tallest and even if stuck the prowler had a winch to tow it out.

Ofcourse the gypsy here was just a glamour doll
