i think its more the question of the wheel base of the vehicle rather than the size of the tyres.

I would put it to a very well maintained and clean engine. The tyres are horrible in slush though. He was absolutely swamped during the Ooty OTR we had. The ridges were knee high and covered with thick slush. Just to give you a quick idea:

You said it man. That's what kept the Gypsy from making it over -- seriously. Just 1-2" of extra GC would be enough.

As I said earlier, it is a combination of both GC (this equates to Tyres) + WB.

Cheers,

i agree completely , from my minimal experience of 6 otrs with jeepthrills, its only this time that we saw some of the bigger and luxury suvs , but more pose value than off roading capability.

You are right. However, the Nissan was put to some use though -- pulling out Kitti's jeep like a fish out of water. effortless. I was zapped seeing that -- especially after gypsies/jeeps were unable to pull it out

It would be a shame if a huge monster like that cant do that.

I got to drive "that" machine briefly during the TPC 07. There was a stretch of very soft sand and my gypsy [then running on LPG] had difficulty in 1 low and was crawling along. I took the Nissan and was able to use the AC and zoom upto 80 kph on the same stretch. We could feel all the electronics at play holding the steering and it was such a tease!

Spitfire,

Is this a sarcastic comment?

Classic stock engine itself is sufficient power. Would it require more powerful engine? May be yes , Ashok Leyland Truck engine.

GTO has the 2.5L XD3P engine with 72HP power and 15Kgm torque on his Classic.

hey, dwaraka, thats an interesting option. Anybody here got an idea how to transplant a six cylinder ashok leyland diesel engine into a 540? Ofcourse, I want to retain the 4x4 and will make my own adaptor plate. Will the engine fit in the engine bay?

Advantages of the power versus the weight etc?

What exactly does it mean? He said very clearly: because he had BF Goodrich AT/R and the power of Classic Engine.
