Snakes!

those are about the last set of pics i have. Have a few more of me holding an 8ft long rat snake that I had rescued, but those are not clear.this thread used to have so many discussions and questions,but seems like everyone has gone into hibernation.

We were at Vagamon (Idukki district, Kerala) last weekend and while walking through the resort, we saw this small snake cross the path just in front of us. It was all of maybe 7-8 inches long and maybe 1/2 and inch thick across & black in color.

What attracted our attention was that the top of its head was golden in color, as can be seen in the snaps attached.

Have drawn a rectangle around the gold part in the snap below.

Anyone knows what snake this is ? Venomous / non-venomous ?

Having never read about a snake with a golden patch on its head, I was joking with my wife that maybe I stumbled across an entirely new species.

It is a keelback species. I cant really make out from your snaps because it is a bit distorted. Also, I can comment on the golden head part only if there is a proper close up snap of the same. It is non venomous.

Guys, a snake was spotted inside our house. Suspected to be the "Indian Bronze Backed tree snake" , called "Komberi mookan" in Tamil. The search is on for hours but we are still unable to locate it.

Is this snake venomous? Any method to bring it out from it's hiding spot?

The bronze back tree snake is mildly venomous but its venom has no effect on human beings. in all probability, it may have escaped by now.

Was surprised to see this german snake in front of me here. Only two kinds are found here. and this one is non-venomous called Ringelnatter. looks pretty

it resembles one of the keelback species found here in india

Kunal (motocamp) had spotted this snake at his farmhouse at karjat (near bombay) in preparation for the upcoming mega OTR.

Can anyone identify please?

Looks like the non-venomous type. Still don't try to pick-up.

I think its' the Black Rat snake. If its' it should be non-venomous. Please do not approach for safe side and let it go

Just 10 minutes back a snake was found in my office park. It was huge. More than 6 feet long and 3-4 inch thick, brown in color. unfortunately, the office boys killed it immediately :(

Hi, Tejas its striped keelback, non venomous. but does bite on mis-handling reported to have played dead on handling sometimes.

It was probably a rat snake and non venomous.

It indeed is a striped keelback and is non venomous. And they DO NOT Bite. I have handled this species at our plantation in Coorg. They are docile snakes.

Most definitely a harmless rat snake. Other species rarely grow so long.
