You can check with Anees at 98440-37424 or 080 25487424, he runs the organization HISS (Help And Information On Snake Safety)

Or else you can contact Bangalore urban forest department at 080-23343464

That's why he is making noise with his feet - the vibrations thus produced is picked up by the snakes. Stamping with the feet while walking is the best way to avoid snakes, while on jungle trails - so long as you dont stamp on the snakes, lol

If the snake is now captured and is in a safe container your friend could probably let it free in a deserted place of a mini forest kind of place nearby. Or if he is willing to go on a drive the snake can be left free in the outskirts, hennur lake, etc.

Thanks for the input guys!! It was a baby cobra he had manged to capture it in a container . I agreed to go pick it up and release it in the lake near Kodigeyhalli ITPL.

There is a railway track running near his place with small thickets abound, he released it there.

Thanks again guys!!

Any encounters? How did you handle it?
Yes, the best way to handle it is have a bottle of "phenyl" ( the cleaning stuff that has a very pungent smell) and sprinkle it on your jeep / gypsy bed. Its an immediate deterrent. If you're camping somewhere sprinkle around you campsite and you will be safe.

Re: Snakes!

Snap was taken by the snake catcher. Place is my BIL estate, NR pura,Shimoga dist, Karnataka state.
In the back ground is my sis & BIL. It used to eat chicks eggs every night . The chicks cages were just behind where the Marshal is parked. You can see the jeep in the photo.

Snake was pulled to open area & photo taken. Finally it was taken to for of place & released.

The snake looks like one of the kraits, I am not sure of the sub-specie name

The lizard is called: Indian Rock Agama

The snake is Striped Keelback, one of the most common non-venomous snakes found all over the country.
The lizard has already been identified, the Rock Agama, an expert camouflage artist. This is a male in its breeding colours. Usually seen basking on rocks to warm up during the day and hides in crevices under the rocks when things get very hot.

Hope this info helped

Re: Snakes!

Can someone help me identify this snake based on the skin ?

Often we find this snakes shed skin lying around in the compound. Recently found one on a store room gate.

Sorry for the bad quality pics.

Snakes!-snk2.jpg

The head is no thicker than a pencil battery , i.e. AA cell.
Snakes!-snk4.jpg

Entire length is around 2 ft

Mostly want to find out if it is poisonous or not.

Thanks
Fillmore.

Re: Snakes!

I am no expert however, it is either brown snake (non-poisonous) or common cobra (poisonous) looking at the hood and the scales, if you have seen a few of these skins it is growing fast...

In any case if you see the snake around irrespective of whether its poisonous or not, for its safety, its better to have it relocated.

If are in north part of BLR, you can contact Shivappa (9980855720) snake catcher who can help relocate the snake, you can also reach PFA (9900025370).

Re: Snakes!

My office has so many python programmers, especially girls. But when a python crawled into our office grounds today evening, not one of them wanted to get hands on... what a shame.

Finally I called a friend who is an expert snake handler. Once I told him that the snake was near the gate, he asked me to leave it alone. It will be gone by morning. My accountant called another snake guy, he too had the same opinion. It is still near the gate, employees are passing by carefully with one eye at the huge python.

It appears to be well fed, going by the girth at the stomach.
