The same reason why offroading happens on Sundays (weekends) - free time

Sure was. It'll be fun to do a two day trip to this place AND Rajmachi in the monsoons. Well, until then, we can keep discovering new places

GTO,

Great going! You have best OTR spot at Manesar. As Khan said, monsoon is very right season to visit for tricky offroading.

Off roading is a nasty bug, which continue to bite one and all.

Have fun,

Dwarak

Report : Fun to the Core

After a late crazy Saturday night, waking up at 5 on a Sunday morning after only two hours of sleep was never so easy. All that kept buzzing through my head was “Mumbai’s first recce”.
I was awake on time (thank God for that) and at the meeting spot only to be greeted by ours truly Gto and Aditya waiting there for me, not that I was late. Me think they were early. A brief look at each others vehicle under the dimming moonlight, handing over walkie talkies and we were off in search of impossible terrain to conquer
I must admit as we were cruising down the expressway, me following the classic in my defender, I really doubted the classic capabilities off the road, probably since I was never exposed to this particular jeep before and also looking at its A/T Michelin tires( and boy was I wrong, and How
We finally reach lonavala only to realize that we don’t know where the rajmachi trail is, this being due to the fact that the person who knew where it was, was tucked in bed dreaming of his previous nights rendezvous’
But hey, you can always ask for directions, so we finally got there to the trail that leads to the rajmachi gaon. Our plan being to find and create a new trail around, so that during non monsoon periods we still have a play spot.
We did find some really good spots on and off with really good climbs and descends and high skill levels. The terrain we conquered here was basically loose gravel and dry grass so traction was really an issue with both vehicles struggling for grip but never really stuck, we fought are way through assisted by our vehicles never giving up on us
dry grass on a steep incline
REPORT with Pics : Mumbai Recce 15th March 2009-recce-001.jpg
REPORT with Pics : Mumbai Recce 15th March 2009-recce-002.jpg

We finally get out of rajmachi and Mr. GTO with his brilliant navigational skills drives around al the back roads finaly finding this beautiful spot
REPORT with Pics : Mumbai Recce 15th March 2009-allan-corb-193.jpg
we approached this spot from across where the dam can is
It was heaven to our eyes
From Far it seemed like easy slopes and a lot of plain areas but once we reached there we found otherwise
I must say “ I have never done such over the edge offroading everAnd quite literally
Loose gravel, added to that my heavy defender and I remember going across a slope sideways I felt my car sliding down , but I just kept the momentum going and got her through. The classic I must add went smoothly through that section
The worst part was that we had no room for error, a small mistake on our part or our cars, meant a topple into the very deep water body, or a straight drop
But at the end whatever we saw we conquered and with style. We were successful in discovering a beautiful place for our passion. About this track during the monsoons, I have my doubts cause it might be down right suicide, but you never know.

The classic was very impressive. A beautiful looking machine with brilliant offroad capabilities. To add to that a very skilled driver behind the wheel. She went across killer terrain and with a lot of finesse.

the small stream was very tricky
real slippery but on the other side was a 50 degree incline with real loose gravel and rocks. If we lost traction meant a straigth skid down into the deep side of the stream

before attempting to cross it, Mr Gto lights up a marlboro and waits, tense ha?
REPORT with Pics : Mumbai Recce 15th March 2009-allan-corb-199.jpg
he crosses it slightly struggling for traction on the incline but sails through
REPORT with Pics : Mumbai Recce 15th March 2009-allan-corb-200.jpg
then the steep ascend, note aditya putting rocks behing the wheels to prevent skidding cause we could not afford to drift back wards

Gto next time I shall carry three towing ropes, once for every time you ask me if I have one. Im glad we never had to use them though
Aditya thanks for guiding us through the tricky terrain
Thanks to our machines for being there when we needed them the most and never letting us down

Oh by the way all chikki shops in lonavala were closed on account of holi

A beautiful Sunday, offroading, eating, go-karting, beautiful machines and a successful recce

Hey GTO, Allan, Addy:

Did you folks try/attempt this path: shown with red arrows?

Can't fully make out from pictures if this is doable or not, but looks very very tempting.
