Wow Tanveer, you took the bull out on an OTR! Fantastic, especially considering what your Safari has been through in recent times. Waiting for the next batch of your report.

Hi Guys,

Looks like you guys had a ball at the OTR. I think I missed something real awesome. Was away to my farm in Hisar as my Grand dad was not well. Nevermind will surely be there next time.
Today would have been apt for an OTR ya, amazing weather.

Anyways looking forward to pics from Harjeev and Roshun.

Cheers everyone !!!!!!!!

Hey Guys
I am not very good at writing... But here are the pictures from my side. I was driving Ashutosh's jeep the whole time, but almost towards the completion of the OTR I saw Sanjeev do an amazing stunt on his 550. So I simply couldn't stop myself from that point
Enjoy

Why do all the ex-army jeeps in Delhi have the Pb47 no. I know its difficult to get it registered in delhi, but this no. is notorious for being "Jaalhi(false)". Most of the dabwalli jeeps have this no. too, but the reason why they have it is that the govt. has banned registering vehicles with a diesel motor implanted instead of a petrol, except if its done by the same company as the vehicle belongs to, with a brand new same company engine with a reciept(Mahindra DI-turbo costs 1.17lakhs from the company, andthats last yrs rate), and then the registration authority re-registers the vehicle with the new engine no. on the R/C. This is the only place left in punjab where they would not(after greasing some palms ofcourse), write the type of fuel on the R/C, and leave it blank. Some of the dealers choose to leave it that way, and some fraudulently write diesel over it, punching the old engine no. onto the one they just implanted.

But the basic point it, that the original records(not the R/C, but the records with the registration authority) still have the old details. I know this because i know of 3 dabwalli jeeps that were impounded by the chandigarh police after the records were checked. The chandigarh police is not at all keen at letting ppl roam around in open jeeps, especially collage kids from the villages(since most of the troublemaking students are from villages and therefore drive jeeps, they think all the jeepwallas are trouble makers) and when they do catch one, they make sure to check the records.
I am not trying to say that they are all fraudulent no.'s, but my friends, if there's any jeep that previously had a petrol motor and this no. was taken specifically to get the diesel motor registered, please do check it up.

@GD
Thanks GD sir. Someone at the OTR mentioned that you would be joining us for the OTR. I was hoping to meet you in person!!!

@brutus
Hey brutus
A very nice and informative post

The majority of the jeeps in NIOC has this PB 47 number becasue
  • The guy who does registration in Mayapuri, gets it done from a tout in Hissar how in turn has contacts in Zira, Punjab
  • These are not fake, I personally drove down to Zira and got it checked up.
  • I think that none of the vehicles in delhi, which have been registered in Zira have been registered and then engine changed later. infact, all of them are in stock condition
  • These can't be registered in delhi as the delhi registration authority does not allow vehicles which are not euro III complaint to be registered. Even if the engine is not changed, it is not possible to register the army disposals in NCR
Like I have 2 vehicles registered in Zira. The 1st is a MM550 (diesel) and the other is a CJ3B (petrol) both are as stock as they came.
So I think that with the correct documentation driving vehicles shouldn't be an issue anywhere in India.

Tanveer - Great pics and write up. I am sure you will not miss any of the OTRs now! The best part about NIOC are the great group of people. One person missing was Sarvinder (Mod). He usually leads the group and takes the most difficult route through any terrain. following him is a true challange.

Harjeev - Next OTR you have to drive your 3b. Lets request the MODS for one on the 10th April weekend. What do you say?

Randeep - We misse you man! When is your 550 getiing ready?

Mandeep - We seem to miss each other each time. I miss the OTR you attend and vice versa!!

Cheers
Ankit

Hey TSK nice pics and write up, please keep them coming..

@ Harjeev: Whats with Sanjeev's jeep. It seems to be stuck in a strange way. (not surprised though coz I know Sanjeev, it is possible for him to do even stranger stunts..lol)

Why did the red classic got stuck? Was it due to the width?

@ Ankit: Yes 11 April is a nice idea. Its a long weekend and I can bring my jeep. I am in.

Put up some videos if any one has.

I am game Ankit.
I think that by that time I should have both my jeeps. Tthe 550 as well as the 3B.
So I am game for the 10th weekend.

This week I might be out of station, as I have a holiday on the 3rd and am planning a trip to Poanta Sahib & Mousourie for a day or two with by brother.
