@Sid: let's see, it's still lots of time and several OTR's would happen before that -- Coorg Monsoon/Sakleshpur etc.

I am for sure interested to take part in TPC but still a long time to go.

@TPC organizers: How many 4x4's were there last year (and how many from outside Chennai) ?

Thanks Sharat for clarifying

Last Year there were 9, 4x4s & 18 participants; 2 were from Bangalore and one from Trichy and another from Coimbatore.

This time I guess there would be more.

9 4x4 do not sound encouraging though!

Hey Guys,

Will be coming over to be part of TPC2009. My colleague is looking for a vehicle, if things work out, you can add me to the count.

See you guys soon. Cheers

No pictures from recce? It is too far and practical for me to come/participate but could get some feel from pictures.

Hi, 3 vehicles went for the recce and yes, we doubt we took any pictures.

The Sand was as always - a little unforgiving if we made mistakes!

@sudev: Yeah it is far, but for a traveling guy like you - I doubt the distances make much of a difference. Why not come for the next recce without the vehicle and then decide for yourself! Arka should be able to help you on the matter further!

Cheers

Recce#1 05-07-09

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay, I forgot my Camera at home yesterday.

I was joined by Sanjay David in his immaculate 1998MM540DP & Headers in his Gypsy MG413.

The weather was Vinod Nookala pleasant so we decided to cover 6kms which is half a days run (3hrs).

Venkat and I marked out the obstacles and generally got a feel of the terrain, the riverbed was divided into 3X6 Grid of road (dirt track) for the Sand mining trucks, now that section is closed and the abandoned sand quarries, are quite intimidating.

We tried a small quarry (trough) and I had a tough time getting out of that.
Headers and Sanjay fared better as they learned which routes not to take.

The BALD Sandgrips didn't inspire too much confidence hence didnot venture in the quarries.

Took a few pictures but none of the expected obstacles .

Regards,

Arka

I am a little puzzled, if the Palar river bed is so dry in monsoon, when is it full?

Dont they get more rain during North East Monsoon? Plus, there has been no flow from upper catchment areas due to Monsoon halting its progress. It takes birth in Nandi Hills!
