My travels do not take me to that part of country - yet! It is a nice thought. So the next recce is on 19-07-09.
Pictures look so innocuous.

Looking forward to the event. Should I remove the thermostat to be on the safe side?
Also would the fitment of a snorkel be a definite advantage?

Hi Beboy,

I was busy with my JEEP, in fact got the snorkel fitted, and changed the exhaust pipes.

The Snorkel has obvious advantages.

1) Draws air from higher up = Less Dusty

2) Draws air from outside the bonnet = Cooler Air.

3) improves air filter and engine life.

4) definite advantage while water crossing.

Regards,

Arka

PS - Will the recovery hardware details are on the website

Basically you need minimum of 10ft or 3 meter length tow wire robe. They are available at chennai on the 2nd hand market for around Rs.400 onwards with ear filing

You have an option to buy nylon straps(2/4/5/6 tonne) to replace the wire robes, they are easy to handle but priced at around Rs.2000 onwards, same with broad pattern could be used as Tree trunk protector.

D shackles of around 3 and half tonnage straight pull capacity should save you and you can estimate Rs.275 for new and Rs.180 for 2nd hand D Shackle.

When you buy 2 D shackles, you also buy at least one slip hook(Rs. 380 for a 3tonne slip hook as shown in my previous post picture)

I will be travelling and will be out of country during the week ending 15th August, so that means all my off-roading plans for that weekend are gone. This means that I am out of the TPC 2009 unless there is a change of travel plan :-(.

As Arka has already mentioned, the Palar river is subterranean : so , even during the monsoons, it will not be seen in full flow.

quite true...the monsoon season in TN is Nov-Dec (though the source areas of the Palar receive rain during July-Sep)

Well, I thought Dwaraka and Gypsy-boy were keen apart from "The Mud Slinger"

Last year, Mrs & Mr. MP Sreenivasan in an Armada and Sharief & Kumaresh in a classic participated!

Maybe they belong to JT - am not sure!

Recce#2 19-07-09

Hi Guys,

We did the second recce for TPC2009, this Sunday.

The systematic sand quarrying has created lots of exciting sand obstacles and mud holes .

Regards,

Arka

I beg to differ sir - The unauthorised sand quarrying has created lots of potential problems for the participants.

The sun added to the misery and we had a tough time. The sand was oh so soft at some places that all vehicles refused to move

BTW, I had the wonderful opportunity of driving a Jeep with a DI575 tractor diesel engine and 4speed GB with 2 speed transfer case!
