Arka,

Nice to see the preparation going into the event. The pics of the last OTRs are amazing. Any cap on head count/ timelines to confirm?

This part was very interesting and well thought out.

1. weather a Pajero can take this terrain. I am asking this after I saw some photos of puppy shame pajero and Tusker pushed pajero in the OTR sections .

2. I have not done a OTR or saw one till today. is it advisable to participate or should I just come and watch for the first time?

Thanks.
Hi Vijay,

TPC is very demanding on Man & Machine. I suggest that you have atleast 3 OTRs under your belt before you come for TPC.

This is to help you understand your 4WD better and preserve it during the event.

Each day you will do more obstacles (Special Stages), than 10 regular OTRs.

Also the Special Stages are spread over 15-25 kms on the riverbed, from where will you watch the event, you have to be embedded .

A Pajero can manage the terrain, but will require a very attentive driver.

Regards,

Arka

We'd gone out for a small 2 hour Recce this morning, more of a fun drive out. I can tell you that the Mumbai boys are considering trucking down their Jeeps for this event.

How I wish I was in India with my rig. Competitions here (at least the ones I checked out)involve old people navigating the bush in $100,000 Landcruisers encountering terrain that would be hard if you were in a Maruti800

OR

If you were real serious and dropped on the head as a child there are stuff like Tuftruck & Woodpecker where nutters winch up vertical cliffs and take their trucks to places a mountain goat would struggle to go. Your sure to see 2 foot suspension travel, 351 V8s and a handful of vehicles rolling down the hill. Tomorrow I’m going to the Lightforce Vic Winch Challenge which is pretty hardcore.

Unfortunately I haven’t found too many competitions in between the two extremes for average people with slightly modded 4WDs. Hopefully next year I’ll get a good suspension kit, lockers & some form of a roll cage to do a few comps.
Its great to see so many serious 4WDers back home. Good luck with the competition!

Great news, GTO
Desertking, perhaps you wont need to drive 2300 kms anymore for the event.

I hope you guys do it. It will be so brilliant to have a team from Mumbai / Delhi in a competition down south.

I guess that would surely be one of the official Team-Bhp teams. Be sure to run it by the Mod team. wait... Just kidding. Hope you guys make it, all the best.

This would be the right time to release a 4x4 Team-Bhp sticker option.

TPC over the years - 2006

In 2006 we came up with the idea of TPC. It was driving across the river bed and doing small sand climbs which were impossibly difficult to climb.

If we saw a 2 foot embankment we would build up speed from 50-100mts by gently varying the engine RPM.

In fact in one recce we covered 4 Kms on flat sand .

Tpc - 2007

In 2007 we decided to make this a competitive OTR. People were modifying their 4WD and the fever had caught on.

Since OTRs are a team event we wanted to maintain the theme, 3-5 Vehicles form a team a move through the riverbed doing obstacles (Special Stages).

In theory it was sound plan, but OTR on Day#1; 40% of the participants backed out because of the heat & vehicle breakdown.

A few more participants joined us the next day.

And we continued on the next day and were able to work out the Special Stage (climbing in and out of Sand quarries filled with water & slush).

This sounds very very exciting. I have absolutely no off roading experience though.

I know I sound like a random interloper, but could I be a passenger/team member on anyones car?

If thats possible then I'll explore the possibility of flying down from Kolkata.
