IIRC, this green jeep is the same that was in Munnar MGE/JT offroad also and at that time it had some other biege/sand color to it. That time IIRC, it's axle had broken.

Arka: is this the same jeep? if yes, then how did it perform (from reliability perspective ) in the TPC? Does it have a traction bar now?

Hi Shahnawaz,

Manzoor's JEEP managed TPC09 with out any damages, as a Rear Traction Bar was fitted. But, the stock JEEPs were faster and took fewer attempts at the obstacle.

Regards,

Arka

mmmm... any specific reason for this? Engine power? Gearing? Tyres? on this one vs Stock?

One would assume that this one because of good B/O angles would clear obstacles easily without getting beached.

The look of Mansoor's Jeep is killing but I suppose the engine had some issue. I understood that she had an S4 motor (it should be same a P4 but the later version).

Arka, I want to know more about this engine (specially the power output) as I never heard a lot, do you have any detail.

That motor is damn heavy! I thought it had the regular mill one . Anyways, that jeep is a looker but performed like an old lady in labour!

KS: You should have been there to set the levels boss : We'd have seen some spectacle atleast!

Cheers

EDIT: @ last pic: Zeal Shiva teaching us 4wd!

There were 2 hopped up MM540s

1st SPOA with S4 3300cc 4cyl 21kgm@1300rpm and weight 345kgs - The steering was vague and front axle hop was visible

2nd 6 inch Shackle Lift with disconnected Shock Absorbers, would hop all the way to the climb and loose momentum.

The transmission losses because of higher pinion angle and axle hop did the first one in.

The second though SUA suffered from axle hop as the shock absorbers we disconnected and had very long shackles.

Regards,

Arka

The Palar Challenge was a learning experience for me, never have seen so much sand and quite a variation of it too.

As for the event, "Never judge a Book by its cover" The simple machines and the simple terrain as what I saw in the web, the reality is far from it. The MM540 has some serious low ratio and grunt, and the Gypsy I have found new respect for it.

The Stage required every bit of experience that was under my belt and if I did not make it I knew that I would be caught with my pants down, especially venturing out without a winch in my team.

Normally I am used to a much heavier vehicle and 3 times the horse power of a Gypsy, hence all the tricks in my arsenal had to come out. This will remain as a special event in my books.

I could identify 4 special stages that were world class. Arka, you are a good plotter, you set the stages up very nicely, technical but within a band of safety, one of the down hill made my stomach very queezy. You read the terrain and the competitors well, I am sure you will have some surprises for me next year.

The concept of the event was brilliant, and Major Roy your operation is flawless, except I will bring you a Radio alarm to replace your whistle.

The True Winners of this event is the organizers, who stood out from dawn till dusk till every man was accounted for. You did this for our fun. Thank you.

I thank Zubin and his determined team of Kerela boys for bringing the gypsy over, and thank you Basker for teaming up with us. Last but not least, I thank Sanjay David, who made me feel that I never left home.

You know what, my wife was cursing me for missing this one -- after seeing the pictures, especially of the ATV's.

It's sooooooooo sad that my work travel happened during this time and I have no control over that -- have to earn my daily bread also saarrrr..

Not only TPC but even Sowmerpet was missed . I would have loved to be there just to experience this whole event and be amongst fellow off-roaders.

From the pictures it is evident that you all guys had a GREAT time and some GREAT off-roading. Cheers to you all my friend.

Navigotor

Naren my friend,(desert king)

Thanks for wonderful pictures and you are a nice photographer....not your camera, not the subject, but purely the photographer!!:-))

Guys, naren is the guy with guts! He travelled 2600kms one side just to be a part of this event. Though he was new to offroading (relatively) he has been an excellent navigator and his budding offroading skills were evident! Icing on the cake he managed to click so many photographs too!

Way to go naren!! Thanks for being there

Here are a couple of photos where I tried to accomodate your request, hope I am not disappointing you...!! (he wanted me to click a nice photo of his Jeep).. In the first photo, the Elephant chain look like you have to tie it as else it can run away at it's own. Happy Jeeping.
