It was part of the Jeepers team from Chennai. It is a dieselised version -- running a canter engine, IIRC.

On the Onset let me say this - This will be one of the Best OTRs of my life.
There are many reasons why a rookie Offroader on his first OTR is saying this. This being my first OTR, why would I make such a statement?.. read on! I hope to convince you by the end of my report.

Based on the pics and the reports so far, many of you would have understood by now :

The overall magnitude of the OTR event,
the sheer number and varied variety of vehicles,
the logistics and arrangements involved,
and that the terrain and the track was a highly intense and appreciated one by many of the seasoned offroaders who came.

Finally the presense of Hyd Jeepers, Chennai Jeepers, MH Jeepers, Mahindra team, Mr Behram and Prateesh (Both who worked on the Thar project) and finally the very humble legend himself Mr Uday Bhan Singh.

I just wanted to detail my experience out a bit with some images. So here goes:

Report Part 1

Bangalore Annual OTR, Avalakondu 24-25 Jan 2010
Jeep - 1992 MM 540 DP 4WD

Day 1 - Jan 24:

At 5.40am, as I travel down the Bellary road towards the meeting point at about 60kmph, a CJ3B, a Mahindra Classic and a familiar looking Gypsy overtake me.

I reach the starting point expecting to see these 3 jeeps and I do.

It was Vivek, Giri and Dwarak all regulars on the Blr offroading circuit. They being the organizers were very much there before 6:00am and they start the formalities.

Little after the Bangalore International Airport junction, which was the meeting point, its dark and cold. Jeeps trickle in every minute. Folks try to chit chat with others around trying to match faces, names to the online handles.

First convoy leaves for a restaurant on route to pick up the breakfast and to wait for the others.

Since I wanted to stick to 60kmph for various reasons, I took a leisurely drive through the mist, soaking in the morning rays.

Vehicles waiting at the Restaurant (2nd meeting point):
The Mahindra support team and the AP team were already there.

More participant vehicles:

Meeting point 3: Breakfast spot.
This is where all the vehicles finally meet up including the Chennai gang and Blr Scorpios, Patrols etc.

He is the most avid collector of Jeeps in the country. His knowledge, passion and love for Jeeps cannot be compared with anyone else. To top it all his humbleness and friendly attitude is something one should learn from.

Why is that Jeep sporting different tyres in the front? NDMS on the left and radial on the right.

Were there any last minute dropouts at all? In fact, I heard there were many gate crashers instead. Hope there was enough food for everybody.

Shankar, are you asking me that question? I've no clue. Probably Khan can throw some light here.

While driving towards Chennai, near Sri Perumbudur, I saw two jeeps - one black sporting nO. 36 and another grey MM540. I thought of waving them to stop but as traffic was heavy, couldn't. Would have loved meeting the folks

@Rudra camp was not on the other side but at the valley of that hill, after the lake, you can see the brick stacks, that was the location as pointed out to me by Khan saab.

I missed it I missed it

Eventhough I was one of the first who got a personal invite for this event from one of the oraganizers Dwarak Sir, I couldnt make it due to work obligations.

The more I read about it and see more pics I curse myself.

Good to know everyone had a great time and I agree that this is one of the best and memorable OTR in Jeep thrills history.

Hats off to all the organizers and congrats to all the participants.

Hope to attend it next year.

Keep the reports and pics coming.
