To get to Igatpuri from Pune, you have 2 ways. The boring way is to come on expressway till Bombay/Thane and then take NH3. All 4-laners. THis will be approximately 250 kms

The more exciting way to come is to take the NH50 to Nashik, turn off at Sangamaner and come via Akole and Bhandardara to Ghoti (NH3) and then Igatpuri. Approximately 300 kms.

Pune to Dhulia via Nashik is fabulous. From 25 kms beyond Nashik, it is great 4-laned roads till near Dhulia.

Re: Western Ghat Expedition

Having enjoyed visiting the Himalayas twice this year I want to explore the western ghats next year. Some of the areas which seem fascinating are:

Silent Valley National Park
Mukurthi National Park
12000 acre forest
Mudumalai National Park
Bandipur National Park
Waynad Wildlife Sanctuary
Nagarhole National Park
Kottiyoor reserve forest
Aaralam Forest
Agumbe

Ideally if one can plan a circuit that covers the most scenic parts of the region with dense forests and a opporutnity to stay within or close to the forests it would make for a fascinating expedition through the western ghats.

The trip should be a relaxed expedition where you stay at places for a day or two to also explore some treks and enjoy nature to its fullest

Any ideas/suggestions on the ideal route, places to stay, places of interest in terms of heritage and natural beauty would be appreciated.

Needless to say this is open to anyone wanting to join in as its more fun when you do this as a group of people.

Deepak,

I too have voted for 2nd half of July. The problem here is that some of the national parks mentioned above are closed for monsoons. Nagarahole esp.

Try fitting me in your Thar.

Re: Western Ghat Expedition

Fazal this poll was for last year. Do you think sometime in January Feb would be a nice time to visit the area?

Actually Shibu (Jeep Captain) would be the right person to guide us for Waynad and areas he is familiar with
