| Big Boys Play At Night - The Lonavala Games With Kerry Packer's landmark slogan for night cricket as the background, let me start off the with 4 images from a night in the trails around Lonavala, where we had an awesome show of drives, four x fours, short cuts, and lots of runs. But first, turn off the flood lights, wear your xray glasses, imagine screams of joy, madness and encouragement and let your imagination loose with these long exposures of the super sixer of the day... A Gurkha and a Gypsy on an island  A Gurkha going into a lake (after a point the lights went under and then some part of the windscreen)  A Gurkha emerging from a lake (I was too excited running to bother about camera shake)  Introducing Arnold schwarzenegger's younger brother (Dr Mohan) as the driver who decided to give a bath to the Gurkha to clean up after the mud spa face treatment In the background is the dentist with the golden gloves (Dr Tejas) who is very good at attaching D shackes and yanking be it a human or an auto! Flying Ibrahim of Sawarsai mountain conquest fame, who also got renamed as crawling Ibrahim (long story) and swimming Ibrahim but whose real handle should be Fearless Ibrahim  Mc Mathew owner of the Rainmaker's shack in Lonavala. Who brought along his own unique style. Imagine music playing in the middle of nowhere as everyone crawled in the mud attaching tow ropes. Probably the only man I know with speakers in his breasts!(Another long story) But for him we would not have been on the trails we went to. Thanks!  Paras and Ibrahim's cousin/friend. Paras is masked so that his friends on the modifications forum which he frequents, dont recognize him hanging with the 4x4 guys  And last but not the least, Sachin, who accompanied Dr Mohan and stood steadfast and cool headed in many situations, scouting the terrain and splashing through the slush to shove boulders et all. Amazing guy. Want one of him for every OTR. Also in tow was Jr Mohan: Sarvesh, who his dad is starting off real young!  Then there was me, who Paras identified as..."Ah. Genesis, you are the photo guy". Hope that is a good way to be remembered. Of course this post will not be complete without the real stars A Black and Red Classic Combo   A Free Spirited Gypsy which is addicted to its pipe  A hardy and quite Nepali breed  To be continued... The first obstacle (a trench) seemed innocuous enough as Flying Ibrahim flew past it in his gypsy, leaving Tejas to go in next. And here is what happened. No problem!  Problem?  No problem!  Any problem?  Different problem!  And after Tejas was towed out, we spent the next 20 minutes figuring out multiple ways to unscrew out the D shackle which had jammed its way behind the Gypsy's bumper. Glad to have his bumper impact, Ibrahim then flew off to find something more problematic and found some slush to play in.  to be continued in the morning... | |

Of all the people I think Tejas was the happiest after the explosion since his fear that an expensive engine part had probably busted went unfounded and he would not have to replace his water pump for the 3rd time in a row I for one am happy to have two legs since the explosion happened right under the left front wheel where I was riding shotgun. So we drove another 30 minutes and reached a spot next to a lake at around 3 am and decided to churn some thick gooey chocolate... | |
