G1 tries to cross a slush filled ditch and go up an incline.

G1 gets stuck. G1 is certain he can get out and tries to dig himself out and digs deeper.

G1 is convinced that if he had accelerated harder he would have cleared it.

G2 (not in the pic) somehow crosses the ditch from a different angle and tries to get G1 out from the front to no avail.

G1 tells G3 to cross over and tow him out. It will be a piece of cake. G1 tells G3 that he is a wuss if he chickens out.

G3 bites the bait, goes in but slips due to slush, miscalculates angle and gets stuck.

J1 tries to tow G3 from the back.

G3 starts sliding and comes perilously close to G1.

Opportunistic photographer who had previously been counterweight in G3 takes great pleasure in clicking the photo.

That is the scene by scene replay which led to the scene...

.
Ok Tejas.
Here goes...

Off roading is such an addiction , one often takes the bait ,hook, line and sinker. Had some other plans for the Saturday and Sunday ,but Tejas phoned up ,saying we are going and Soumya my dear friend is also coming.
Out here our OTR's must have 3 ingredients --Ibrahim+Tejas +Soumya.
The above equation = FUN
So I passed on the bait to my other friends, Rahul from Delhi ,Manoj from Mumbai and Vipul and his friend from Silvasa.

So we all met at Lonavala and yes ,we delayed the group .

So we all started , "convoy lead" was Mr.Shukla followed by Ibrahim and Alok .
Somehow Tejas and me took a wrong turn and then we went on scouting the area and finally after a lot of calls from Tejas ,Alok and Ibrahim climbed down to guide us back.

On the way we saw a very steep climb ,we all atempted it but it was too stubborn and wont let us..in the words of Flying Ibrahim "climbing this is not an option".

So off we we went to the "Angel tree" ( Folk lore has it that a man drowning was saved by this tree..how? its too complicated,on some other thread maybe) where we parked our vehicles for a short time.

There we started exploring a few areas on foot and before we could even find out ,the inevitable happened, be-rahaam Ibrahim got his gypsy stuck in the slush.
2 Vehicles responded to his 911 call.
My Gurkha and Tejas's Classic. To reach there we crossed 2 minor obstacles and then ....rescue.

As though feeling left out ,Rahul decided to take up my Gurkha to do a seemingly possible stunt. A rut with a sloping approach and a 2 feet step for a departure. I think its his exhaustion(driving form Surat to Lonavala) or the dark or unknown factors..the Gurkha simply slid forward to hit the step, embedding the bumper and all . Another 911 call for a stuck vehicle and this time Tejas answered the call.

We saw a fire burning at a close distance,in the still of the moon lit sky and we pondered what could it be,maybe a wildfire created by us?
We then decided to push ahead ,when we were met by Matthew, who had got food ready at his shack nearby. The fire I was alluding to was the night-fire lit by Matthew for our benefit.

In the meanwhile Ibrahim discovered that his cluth had become non-functioning. This time Alok responded by trying to tow Ibrahim up above a very steep incline, however it was too overpowering for his Gypsy.
So my Gurkha towed Ibrahim's Gypsy up ,where it stayed parked for its eventual recovery.
We then proceeded to Mathew's shack for food.
A campfire was lit, it was breezy, cool and the whole landscape was lit by the moon and the lake in front of us looked like a giant glass sheet ( Sorry no photos).
We all had chicken rice but Ibrahim had "Fried-clutch" too.
At Matthews shack we were met by Devang ,Imran and Pinkybhai.
So the atmosphere changed totally.

About the "Angel Tree" once agian--Ibrahim had another story. The tree is so called because once a man tried to hang himself from one of its branch and the branch collapsed..Merciful tree..it saved the man's life.

So it went on this way, jokes ,pulling each others legs, food and juice.

My Friends all exhausted from a long travel decided to call it a day. So we all crammed in my Gurkha and bid adieus to everyone else and reached Lonavala at 5:00 am. There we parted ,Rahul in his Fortuner, Vipul in his Optra and me and my Gurkha

Tejas ,what happened afterwards?

@Condor - I was just trying to use my muscle power to pull @ornstar out

Just Kidding -Actually i was trying to cross that to go on the other side to pull the @ornstar out but I myself got stuck as I approached @ wrong angle and my HT tires lost all traction.

@al l- It was a gr8 fun, but I somehow didn't enjoy much as compared to previous OTR.

Damages done

1 Rear Bumper
2. Tming Belt (the screw inside the timing belt cover came out & broken the Timing belt & tensioner bearing inside)
3. Air Filter (Sucked lot of water)
4. Radiator (damaged by the splash of water by Fan)
5. Alternator (to be checked, big noise is coming from inside)

Lesson Learned

1. Always approach vertically to the slippery ruts, don't try any angles.
2. Once stuck, don't use ur wheel power, let others pull you, you can assist by just pushing your car from side to get it towed in right direction.

Cheers!

Alok

Hah ha! Sounds like you guys had quite a time! Did the Gurkha get stuck somewhere or did it just plough through what mother nature had in store?

I think I missed another great one... while I was away off-roading in the Great Rann of Kutch alone. I had a big blast anyways.

Which location did you guys go to...? Any of the old locations where I had joined in last time or is this new territory????

I personally think (similar to alok) that the zing was missing from this one. The trails could have been better coordinated.

The pictures seem to tell a different story, which speaks to the determination of the participants
