Program

SATURDAY:

1) Rallying point at Mumbai/Pune ( already decided).
2) All Vehicles to meet at Alibag at the HP Fuel Pump(Time latest by 8:00pm).
will be in touch with Tejas. Will meet you at the pump.
3) Proceed to the beach. Fix up tents, make place ready for the early morning
hours.
4) Have food, fluids on the beach.
Then proceed to the nearby slushy area for those who want to get stuck and
try their vehicles. Towing lessons by the experts can also be had .
5) Retire early to get up in the morning.
6) SUNDAY: get ready by 8:30am.
7) Second team joins us by 9:00am at The HP Petrol Pump at Alibag.
8) We join and proceed to the FIRST EVENT : Drive on Slush(Note this is not
the same area we do on Saturday night). After this event(hopefully no
lengthy recoveries)we proceed to WATER-CROSSING. We should finish this in an hour.
9)We proceed to the mountains. At the start we shall be thanking
Mr.Mahindra Dalvi(4WD enthusiast and a social worker) who has lent his land and JCB for some tracks. This will take 10 minutes. Allan will hand him a
momento. This 10 minutes would prove as a good investment in the future

9)We proceed then to the mountains. Here we will do climbs, descends.
ruts,slush and general off roading.

10) Difficult to say what time we would be free.
  • To give everyone a fair chance each vehicle would be given 2 attempts to clear an obstacle. Remember we have 20 vehicles. This will prevent the track from getting damaged and no waiting in the que for long. After everyone is over any participant who hasnt done the obstaclke is free to try many times.
  • This place dosent have a proper Network, hence late comers may not be able to contact the others. To avoid this discomfort, please be on time.
  • I havent done any arrangement for food on Sunday, as we had no idea of individual preferences and the number of people coming. We will have to improvise.
  • Full cotton shirt, wide brimmed hats or caps, sun block creams and loads of water( 4litres /per person).Tejas dont forget to get your Radio sets ,I have 2.
  • We would be crossing through a private plantation of mangoes. We will have to ensure that no harm is done.
  • if someone can get mats to sit,we would gather under a large banyan tree and discuss about the future activities.Maybe we can call this tree as the "Consensus tree" in the future.
  • 20 vehicles may be a chaos, but with a little individual cooperation we could enjoy to the fullest.
  • Above all ,before leaving Alibag ,everyone should wash their cars undersides at 2 designated "Washing Centres" for a nominal fee.
  • Above all ,I tried my best,if there are any lacunae, please take it in a sporting way.I am as human as you are!
  • WELCOME TO ALIBAG!!!!

HEY!! Mohan, where is my name??!! no sweat man, just kidding, im in on Sunday so dont worry about the tent accomodation for me anyone.

@ Tejas-Was kidding about you pushing the surgery back we all know you and no doc would ever do that
...er regarding the numbers, could i have number 5 or 10?

Ok the scenario with my CJ is that, it is serviced, mended, whatever little oil leaks were found, some oil seals replaced, lubricants replaced, topped up and a through check by Ferdi from Milestone. Allan and me have been in constant touch re getting my NDMS. Thanks for all the help Allan.

Out of the tyre dealers whom i had sounded off, one called this morning, saying he had arranged Ceat NDMS for me (didint know they make NDMS as their website does not mention anything) and within a minute the MRF guy called to say the MRF NDMS had been arranged too. So tomorrow the CJ gets new NDMS shoes. Noticed though that it is missing skid plates at the bottom. Will try to get something from the Jeep market tomorrow.

Do the skid plates of the 540/550 fit on the CJ? I havnt the faintest idea.

Have a tool box but no tools, so will pick up a wheel spanner and some spartan tools tomorrow to carry. Plus an extra coil, hose, fuses. Getting an electronic fuel pump fitted in parallel tomorrow. Sorry i wont be able to do steep and very tricky terrain as i postphoned the fixing of my roll bar till i had met every single one of you on Sunday. 1+1 = 11 you know. As it is said, "When doing something you dont know about, consult everything and everyone, even the walls"

Viper called to say he would be joining us on Sunday too so will Ferdi with his classic and 53bhp with his CJ.

I need to know a few things, could someone tell me what time to leave Bombay to easily get to Alibaug/destination around designated time? What is the designated time? What is the destination for Sunday morning arrivers?

P.S. Can we have the Acronym based around M.U.D. (where M stands for Maharashtra?) words with U = United, Urban..... and D = Dirt, ...just ideas for someone crative amongst us to get working!!

@Gogi:

From Mohan's commandments: Second team joins us by 9:00am at The HP Petrol Pump at Alibag.

Dadar to Alibag is 120 km approx.

So you should probably budget 3 hours to be safe (it is 2 hrs in a normal car) and do a 6 am start to avoid traffic/ provide for some coordination/syncing with other vehicles and ironing out highway niggles and noises if they surface (touch wood not!).

Other creative options (seeing your 2am post timings and me just having first cup of morning tea):

1> Find a friend who own's a barge and load the CJ3s and classic from bhaucha dhakka and drop and mandwa.

2> Request mechanic to do long distance test at 6am with car. Take 7.20 am ferry from gateway to mandwa!

You wont need that in the coming 5 years. Alibag is slated to be the 3rd Mumbai in the coming few years. Gateway of India to Mandwa bridge is in the "bids and tenders" section.
Once that you drive to Alibag in 30 minutes.

@Motocamp: Join in ,no sweat.

Slightly off-topic here but I am expecting to face some incredible heat/sun and dust.

Where in Mumbai can I get the following:
1. Fedora hats / sombereros
2. Cooler box
3. Imported SPF30+ sunscreen
4. Gum-Boots or wading boots

You have an AC! Stop complaining!!!

Answers:
1. Any colour plus outlet
2. Masjid bumber fish market
3. Alfa
4. Duckback outlets. Wading boots not available in india; i've searched a lot.

EDIT:

GS are you coming today or tomorrow?
