Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered

Alibaug is a sleepy little seashore town around 120 km from Mumbai, where people live a serene unhurried existence

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-retire.jpg

Watching life slowly pass by

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-cycle.jpg

Playing cricket on the beach

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-cricket.jpg

Or happily climbing mango trees

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-mango_tree.jpg

But there exists a fringe element in town

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-fringe_element.jpg

Who have an unlikely hero in a local doctor

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-good_doctor.jpg

Who behind his day life in the ICU is actually the representative of a movement which is taking the nation by a storm

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-team_bhp4x4.jpg

So one fine weekend the doctor decided to invite his friends to town

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-friend_line.jpg

And soon all of Alibag was talking about those crazy visitors who spent a night and a day doing scandalous things which had never been done in their town before

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-img_9088_edit.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-pune_friends.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-one_two.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-flying_ibrahim.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-monstar_mud.jpg

So now that you have a sample, Tejas, what happened next?

What a beautiful start to the OTR report. A GREAT storyline. So refreshing to see the wonderful action pics. Looks like you had a blast enjoying slush/water and company of great friends.

The pictures are great. Look forward to rest of the report

A copy of my post in the other thread for the same purpose.

Well it was a great OTR. My fist as a participant and the same for my Hurricane engined CJ3B (Apologies to the Jawans who used it to serve the country before it was bestowed unto me)
A special thanks to all of you for encouraging an absolute newbie like me (as a participant in an OTR). A special thanks to Behrambhai, Tejas and Pinki Paaji for pushing me to undertake trails i would have never had the guts or confidence to tackle. Needless to say with their expert guidance and mostly a lot of help from my CJ, it was possible to make whatever i undertook, seem like a cake walk. Really, i have a newfound respect for the Hurricane powered CJ3B and i love it now, not only for its looks but for its abilities to crawl silently just about anywhere and everywhere.

The day started with a light breakfast with Behram bhai and Viper at 6:40 am at my place.

I hopped in to the "THAR", Viper in his Civic type R and my mechnaic Razak in my CJ.
The That is in another league altogether. Firstly it does not seem like a diesel powered vehicle. Secondly it behaves nothing like a Mahindra Jeep. Its fast to the point of being lethal and is surefooted and very much at ease being cornered hard in plus three digit speeds, as is at home in terrain where almost no other vehicle would venture.

Let me introduce the Thar to you as i rode in the vehicle from Mumbai to Alibaug and loved every bit of it.

It is bulit for an OTR...no wait, it is built for the road...no wait it is actually built for some good speedy cornering.....no no actually it is.....well its built for an enthusiast who wants to do all of the above and more. I wish Mahindra is seriously looking at building this go anywhere vehicle. I hope also, it will not meet the fate of the AXE which disappeared into oblivion as fast as it appeared. (Please, i hope someone at M&M finally does what the public wants.)

Looks was never an M&M strong point so lets totally forget what the Thar looks like. It handles like any other sedan would and thats saying a lot about a Jeep. Of course you have to be a good driver to extract the maximum, i had the good fortune to be an awestruck passenger while the Behram Dhabar (herinafter refered to as BD ) drove her around like a college kid would. Had it been anyone else, i would have opted to get off at the next street light but with BD at the wheel i was sure that he knew what he was doing. It ate the tarmac for breakfast, including some Skoda Laura inhabitants who could not believe that a Jeep just whipped their ego at the street light. im sure they are all lined up at the dealership asking the company to check whats wrong with their car. Its not whats wrong with their car, its whats right with the Thar. Firstly its BD at the wheel. I remembered my rally days when we used to drive Fiats and Esteems like that but a Jeep being driven as if its a Evo and the damn machine responding positively too. Wow. M&m you guys got a winner here, just get your pricing right and you have something no other competitor has.
More about the OTR with some pics tomorrow. Was so exited about the Thar Thar i just had to post today.

Mods kindly delete the post from the thread that this post does not for into.
Thanks

Wow O Wow..!!
A wonderful start to this OTR report. It looks like something spectacular. Looking forward to the full report.
The Blue gypsy taking off is Allan's modified creation, right ??
And the mud soaked gypsy taking off sure looks like Ibrahim's ride.
Mohan!! Feels bad already to have missed this one, though im sure I probably would have been spectator to most of the hardcore action, but thats good fun too!
I just said five 'Hail Mary's' hoping I can make it for the next one.

Approximately 12 hours before Gogi Paaji broke bread with Behram bhai and Viper, the traffic patterns on Palm Beach road in Vashi were thrown haywire, as drivers, bikers, slowed to crane their necks at the eye candy lined up near the lake.

Tejas's red classic for once was not hopelessly outnumbered by Gypsies
since it found a majestic black classic driven by Prasad and his wife for company.

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-red_classic.jpg

However like all royalty, the black classic had an idiosyncrasy.
It would start only when pushed but since it had been brought out of hibernation a few hours ago.
But once started it unfailingly made up for lost time.

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-black_classic.jpg

The convoy started reached Alibag close to 10.00 where we were received at the entrance of the city by our host and brought to the 'resort' by a motorcycle and gurkha escort.
(BTW the nice room shown was soon earmarked for the ladies. The rest slept in tents, on each other (please keep your minds clean) and some slept in chairs (more about this later)).

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-ladies_house.jpg

The Pune guys and then Prashant and David joined while we were having late dinner

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-pune_jeep.jpg

And soon introductions were made

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-intro_1.jpg

The agenda in place, Devang's prayers were soon answered

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-prayers.jpg

And Mohan led us to the slush area.

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-slush_hunt.jpg

Where some went in a bit gently

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-couple.jpg

Some took a middle ground

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-pajero_ginger.jpg

Until the slush masters then took their show on the road

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-monstar_slush.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-alok_slush.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-ibrahim_slush.jpg

And the Alibag mud spa was open for business

The tempo increased

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-jeep_thing.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-allan_crew.jpg

with some strategic timeouts

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-alok_engine.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-allan_engine.jpg

and new explorations

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-ibrahim_wandering.jpg

one of which caused prashant's mini pajero to get stuck

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-prashant_stuck_1.jpg

for the next 1 hour (maybe 1.5!)

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-prashant_stuck_2.jpg

we saw a display of every equipment known to man from steel ropes to kinetic (?) straps

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-cable_nylon.jpg

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-cable_kinetic.jpg
from winches to human power

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-winch.jpg

but it only dug deeper

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-james_struggle.jpg

until a lesson in physics was given by professor kunal who used 4 vehicles and a humble hand winch to get it out

Alibaug OTR- Just what the good doctor ordered-hand_winch.jpg

After devang and alok cleared the same spot (just to prove they could do it ),
we headed back to camp, where some people went to sleep, some chatted, some listened to the 'ganpati' music being blasted by another group in the neighboring shacks.

But by the time it finally quietened down it was already dawn
and time to 'Wake Up Sid'

Soumya, that was a fantastic racy visual narrative style.

Dwarak, Scorpio 2WD hardly in the same company. But yes, it did make some feeble attempts, also get stuck in some benig mud and had to be towed out! We are all getting inspired by your OTR stunts in Bangalore region
