Time to find some new trails before the monsoon sets in!

Time to explore new trails, so leave DwArF at home and hitch a ride. No point in taking many vehicle and land up cheesing off the locals before we make friends and contacts. So Sree picks me up and we head with Khan to Viji's and this is how Viji's son wake's up on a normal sunday.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1342.jpg

Sidhu and myself couldn't keep our hand off and soon begged and pleaded with lil Aditya to give us a chance which he did. We proceed to Mysore road and i see tow bars up ahead.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1343.jpg

Double dose of breakfast and we head out to the dried up river. Some Spidey modelling.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1344.jpg

Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1346.jpg

As Dwarak mentioned, the idea back fired and so we headed to alternate location and on the way we find an interesting terrain. Some walking around and hooraah we find a potential terrain. Take a small detour from the katcha road and we are headed towards a rock phase which leads to an abandoned quarry.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1347.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1348.jpg

Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1354.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1355.jpg

Some chit chat and checks for the new super wide tire's for any rubadub.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1356.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1358.jpg

And Khan decides to try out the new custom foldable, 50:50 split rear seats.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1359.jpg

After the initial climb its and easy drive to the quarry. We stop at a rock phase but its too steep and has too many sharp cuts which will not allow any climbing circus. So its a long boring exploration by leg and our heroes continue with thier boring duties.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1360.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1361.jpg

Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1363.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1364.jpg

So while they do, me and Sidhu laze around with some chit chat and redbull for company. Then we hear Viji shouting at us, rather Sidhu To get the darn tow ropes and this is what we are greeted to.

Sidhu climbs up with redbull in hand.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1365.jpg
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1366.jpg

Sidhu without redbull and ipzy starts the flight.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1367.jpg

Lucky we have winch and then Sreeraj tow service so we somehow manage to recover the vehicle. Please do not try this at home, it was very risky and no am not kidding.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1368.jpg

Toppling a vehicle on such a surface and that too down to a depth of 30-40 feet is not the ideal way to spend a Sunday.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1369.jpg

So after an hour or so we climb down and then find another trail and this is the first obstacle. Spidey is lil crippled coz the front fender needs to be sorted to allow articulation, added to bush cover hiding a nasty pit/drop this is what you get.

Finally!!! Jaggu wakes-up. Man it was a very very tricky recovery, I was on half clutch + revers to keep the tension of two strap.

Rock, Rocked and Rock & Roll

So where were we.
Offroading Recce -Bande Basappana Doddi, Off Kanakapura-img_1373.jpg

Small break for Dwarak to find a way up.

Second climb, this one is definitely a vehicle breaker. Even i had to keep my mouth shut up to get Sree up the slopes, without freaking him out

Sorry am not that daring to go stand in front of an about to topple vehicle!! Imagine back to front at around 75-80 degree, now add left to right at around 40 deg differential + slippery granite pieces for traction + top heavy vehicle = tumbling down the rocks!

This one was really tricky without the winch and the hands, we would definitely now be hunting for a new body for a well known ipzy by now.

Sad part of OTR photos!!! No terrain can be judged from photos. You should see it to believe it!!!!

Baya weavers (Hanging Nest) and "little red dove" ;-)

If we didn't remove that rock, my differential would have been a history now!!!

typical Diesel Jeep terrain. No Gypsies climebed this except Spidey!!! I was so afraid to take that!!! You always hear that Thud!!! One more fact about this terrain, no vehicle came out without hitting the differentials including Spidey!!!

This is a trail with good potential to spend a full day. However we need to be careful of number of vehicles that can be taken on this trail as this is very very close to civilization.

Meanwhile, let's continue find more new routes/trails

Oh yes. We were lucky that we had a winch. Imagine pulling it out with just a tow rope.!! We would have then left it there itself.

Yeah, first thing to use is a soft hammer/mallet to smoothen the arch/fender joints to prevent scrubbing. That should give 1/2 inch of space.

Yeah. No way it can be shown in picture or described. Seeing is believing

yeah, the crawl gears + increased effective GC + lockers do help. I think the very fact that the leafs are out of the way and above itself makes it sooo much simpler. Otherwise, the shackles/leafs are the first thing to get hit.

However, since the diff is still sitting low, an occasional hit here and there is bound to happen. So time now to make a diff guard.

But the trouble is diff-guards will further reduce the GC.

Not really, the diff guards generaly proctect the front of the diff , that is the diff housing cover and not the bottom of the diff.

Yup i have a faint feeling that there is more inside away from highway and away from too much attention.

Can you please drive spidey to my office either in the morning or evening before 6 pm one of these days!

Lol only thing i was worried while driving was the tires and the horn button, rest everything was better than driving in the highway inside spidey he he he
