When you buy gumboots, check for the flexibility at the ankle. Some are very rigid and won't let you bend the ankle. While driving, you will have lift your entire leg instead of merely bending at the ankle to release the pedal. That can cause lot of problems for Jeep drivers with very little room between their knee and steering wheel.

Im guessing the gum boots are a must for monsoon OTRs. BTW, I have this friend who knows someone who manufactures shoes that go to Indian army. I picked up a pair or waterproof canvas camouflage high ankle shoes from him for Rs.450/- They are rock solid and for that price I think they are super worth it! These grip the ankle well but not too tight as samurai has mentioned below...

Wolf, the shoes you have posted are Jungle Boots. It will get wet thoroughly in water.

The gum boots are cheaper though. In Coorg I had picked up Diamond brand gumboots for 160 bucks, they are light as feather, but inflexible at the ankle. Yesterday I got 14 inch Duckback gumboots that are flexible at the ankle for 413 bucks. They look similar to what Shahnawaz is wearing, but have red soles. The yellow sole gumboot are of higher gauge and inflexible at the ankle, which I didn't prefer.

Totally agree to this one!

Yes Devang! We should plan a trip this side...How far is it? Our jeeps will kill us!
Well that actually is another plus for the Thar! "120 Kmph cruising" to reach really far OTR destinations!!

Missed this thread earlier. Some of you fellas are really mad(pun intended) . Period !! I don't think I would have mustered the courage to do this at that point in time. Kudos to all you guys.

Jaggu thanks a ton made for a wonderful read. How did you manage to keep your camera dry thru the slush fest ?
