That's car number 7.
That's why you'll see my post on the great escape wall on how to drive.
These 2wd drive cocky boys think that if they go fast, they'll clear the slush. They don't realize that they land up with no control of the vehicle and in this case, the car turned turtle due to the embankment at the slope corner. If the corner wasn't there, he would have just gone straight down!

This reminds me of the 2004 GE in Goa which I attended in my 2WD Bolero Invader. 60% of the crowd were Scorpios of which 90% were 2WDs. Man - you should have seen the attitude!! At one point, the trail got quite risky (owing to heavy rains over the night before) and all 2WDs were (rightly) asked to turn back. Few Scorpio owners literally picked a fight with the organizers - arguments like 'How can you design a trail for M&M vehicles and say that a SCORPIO cannot manage to do it?' were flying around

Some suggestions for upcoming GEs:

a. There should be separate trails for 4WD and 2WD vehicles - I am sure this will be a BIG breather for 4WDs who end up spending 75% of the time waiting for the 2WDs to be winched out
b. There should be some sort of screening for participants, especially for 2WD ones as most of the time they are the 'cocky' ones as you rightly said

M&M - some feedback for you

Why do they call "race", its not! And such publication terming it, brings bad name to offroading events!

I agree with point a

As a rule any vehicle which is not a four wheel drive should not be put in the same category as a 4x4 vehicle, it will cause unnecessary problems for everybody, not matter what vehicle it is.

Point b is tricky as there is no sure shot way of gauging a experienced or good offroad driver in a relatively short period of time.

59th Mahindra Great Escape, Mumbai 2010

I desperately wanted to go off-roading at the Mahindra Great Escape Rally near Mumbai on the 25th of this month. Had to pull out at the last minute. I anyways came across these kick-*** photos on the MGE fanpage on Facebook . All I can do now is share them with you'll and wait patiently (or impatiently) for the next rally to be held in Mumbai. You guys can enjoy these picture for the time being.

Excuse me , My Lords . Is this MGE is for M&M vehicles ?

If yes then

What if some one brings in a Mahindra Which is essentially a two wheel drive but can & does recovers 4X4 's ?
Clue : The rear wheels of this vehicle are Bigger, three times then the front ones .

Note : Its no joke . Any one may do that some day .
Yours Sudarshan

Sudarshan, Mahindra tractors can't go everywhere a normal 4WD can go. Prime example being steep climbs or descends.

Dear Sudarshan - during past Great Escapes, especially in Rajasthan, we used to actually hire tractors and make them stand at strategic places to pull vehicles out. 99% of the time, the drivers were scared to even enter the obstacles, let alone do any actual pulling. They were convinced that we were indeed completely mad to even attempt to do what we were actually doing, so I am quite comfortable on this point. .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Mysterious Invader

Did anyone notice this Invader in pic? It had a NEF TC engine with multi-link coil suspension at the rear?

This was my first MGE.
It was a very properly planned event but Nature had different plans.

The MGE team had planned a different route for climbing and another route for descending but due to the very heavy rains the trail washed off, leaving behind a very wide crater.
There was a cloud burst 2 days prior and it had rained torrentially.

If everything could have been "as planned" it could have been an excellent trail both for the 2WD and 4WD.
The climbs where the 2wd got stuck could have been avoided altogether.
The climbs would have been descends instead.

As I had mentioned earlier I was with the MGE team on Saturday and I am putting the video of the trail that was planned. The video only shows a part of the trail.

What the MGE missed and the video missed:
1) A vast ,flat area with waterfalls.
2) Picturesque valley.
3) Water crossing.

Nevertheless it was a great event .
Nobody can ,with any amount of meticulous planning, overcome nature's design.....
.

What is the point...you don't sell us any of the good stuff. All the quality products end up abroad. I don't blame you...it is a business model for Royal Enfield, Mahindra, Tata and pretty much everyone else.

When I come to power...

That's awsome mate. But why did you guys allow your design team to hit it with the ugly stick? Bolero Invader was the last one with the classic square headlights and without the pansy bumpers.

What is that blue 540-type vehicle? Is it a "mahindra customization gone wild" vehicle or something else?
