Soft roading with family near Bangalore on my Gurkha

First Soft roading with family on my Gurkha this July 24 @ Illugul betta / SivappanaBetta

Had been to the same place as last Saturday again, but this time with My Wife Anu, Son Tejas, Cousin Rajesh, Raghu & His wife Swetha.

We had a ball of a time, The Vehicle is totally Awesome & I am loving it.

Discovered that the Gurkha can CRAWL on its own & climbe / ascend or decend most terrain by-it-self !!Just put it in 1st High & take your foot off every thing, enjoy and direct the vehicle with the PS thats all, if its too slow a climb, put it in 2nd & do the same, just too good, even my cousins wife who was driving any 4 wheeler for the first time was able to drive it off road.

Every one drove it, every one likes it (much of my surprise to me !!!)

Enjoy the pics:

Hey, nice outing you had there man.

And a Indian flag in front!!!! Umm, a patriotic off-roading

The snorkel looks nice. And the team-hp sticker too. You got it left right and center. Lol.

Hi Mjothi,

I Always have a flag on my trips just Love to see the Tri Color flutter, its a little difficult while offroading as it tends to break, yet to find a good mount point.

Cheers
Sunil

Nice Vehicle

Hi Sunil,

Congratulations on a nice vehicle and the soft top is very functional.

It good too see that you taken a liking to off-road driving.

I would like to add

i) Its a 4x4, not a Boat, avoid water obstacles they will kill your vehicle, especially your Wheel Bearings.

ii) If possible go out with a group of vehicles in case of an emergency you will have people to help you.

Looking forward to seeing you in the Bangalore OTRs.

Regards,

Arka

Its a good thing. But not sure if its legal to have a tri-color in civilian vehicle. Anyway, its good to see it.

@ wolf sure PM to you sent

@ Arka, Thanks for the suggestion
Didn't take family out the first time to the same place, had been there with 3 gypsy & 2 Gurkha's including mine.
But yes didn't try a lot of things as I don't have a winch and no other vehicle was present to recover.

Sure, Need to remember that, Gurkha is not a Boat but I am awfully attracted to do water fording.

Mjothi,

Gurkha is no civilian vehicle , its made to order for Israel, German & Srilankan Army ( at least that's what I have read)

Indian Flag Code of Conduct - Rules for Hoisting Flag of India
India Flag Code of Conduct India Flag Code - India Flag

Thanks

HiSunil,

Another Gurkha, doing what it does best. lovely articulation pics. The water fording does look great, like you already mentioned it does look very daring to do that without any towing back up. But since you have been there with other vehicles, I am guessing you knew that the possibility of the vehicle getting stuck was very slim.

OT - As for the flag, I would suggest that you check on that rule again as we would not want you to get into any trouble.

India Flag Display on Vehicles Indian Flag Display on Vehicles Protocol - India Flag
From the links you sent itself I says this - 'The privilege of flying the national flag on a vehicle is restricted to the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Governors and Lt. Governors, Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers and Junior Cabinet members.....'

Sunil, how do people get into the back seat? do they have to jump in from the side or does the front seat folds so that they can get in (like sierra) ? i would appreciate if you can post some pics of the front seat (folded) as i have something similar in my mind.

Hi LivyoDeam,

there is enough room between the front seats for people to get to the back seat, just that the navigator needs to get down for people in the rear to get down or climb in.

In fact so much space is present between the front seats that was trying to put a small blue chair between the seats for my son Tejas to sit on it

Will get some pics of front seat folding & post them.

@ Aamir567 Thanks, yes we had a great time, especially as everybody drew the Gurkha Off road, including Tejas 4 years Old (Just the steering everything else is auto crawl anyways)

Cheers
Sunil

OT :How wide is it compared to gypsy? can the same set up be done in gypsy too ?
Is that a stock seating arrangement that came with gurkha?

Gypsy width is 1540mm & Gurkha's is 1660mm & + Height is very tall too so people can walk between the front seats in a Gurkha, I don't think it will be as convincing in a Gypsy.

The ones in My Gurkha are not OEM seats, they are Ford Endeavor ones with standily leather overs. The Soft Top is a custom make too, so is the RollCage

All credits go to previous owner Vasudeva Rao, He gave the Toe-rope with the vehicle too, Planning to get a Shovel, gloves. I have a twin cylender Air pump, wondering what else will be needed.

Cheers
Sunil
