Sir, DKG is talking of June/ July and hence the suggestion. Snow blockades in this period at Rohtang & Kunzum may not be the biggest hurdle. Landslides due to unseasonal rains may be more of a problem.

Wow I am speechless !! Truly spectacular. We need more ideas on freezing the itinerary and stay options etc. We have about six months to plan this and execute it so lets keep the ideas and suggestions rolling in.

What beautiful pictures !!

HVK you are an authority on the subject so keeping in mind we'll have guys driving in from Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Bombay please suggest the full route, taking into account days for travel, with enough time to enjoy the places up north. Many of us will be driving old Jeeps so lets plan the route @ 50 kmph average speed and day time driving only

Oh ofcourse anyone in any car can join in. Sorry if I gave you the impression its only Mahindra.

We will however try to tie up with Mahindra for basic service support and checkups at Mahindra workshops along the way. Maybe we could do that with Maruti too if possible

Maybe we should just call it The Great Indian Roadtrip !!

For starters we'll have the Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad group heading up into Delhi via Nagpur Gwalior route. The Bombay group can join us at Delhi via the Indore Delhi route. Does that sound okay?

@DKG, For people driving from Bombay, it would be easier to travel via GQ / NH8, i.e Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi.

People lets get The Great Indian Roadtrip on the road!

DKG, what are the planned dates and duration?
Any specific places you want to halt at?
I will work out a daily drive plan and revert.

HVK why don't you recommend something like you did earlier keeping in mind the most scenic routes Delhi onwards. We could head upto Leh and back? Once we reach the scenic locations we could slow the pace down so there is some flexibility to enjoy the location for a day each and then drive on. 21 to 30 days is what we need to budget for the full trip from Chennai/Bangalore/Hyderabad/Bombay up to the Himalayas and back. Does that sound like a reasonable amount of time?

As to what dates are best in June/July, you can recommend taking into account when most roads open up and are motorable

We have six months to plan so most of us can plan our leave accordingly. The list right now is:

Hyderabad group

Bharat Reddy CJ3B
Raj Goli Tata TL 4x4
DKG CJ3B

HVK please don't plan for more than 12 hours of driving per day max

If we are heading up via Ramnagar Corbett I can arrange for one day stay at Dhikala for some Tiger viewing That area is so beautiful

Re: Exploring the Himalayas

So lets get a list going of folks interested in participating. As we go along you can keep adding/deleting from the list to get to a final count closer to us leaving. If the city from where you start is not listed you can add it in and plan so you either catch folks from Bombay or Hyderabad for the two main routes up

Route : yet to be set

Period of Travel : Tentative June/July 2010, actual dates and duration of trip to be finalised

Hyderabad

Bharat Reddy CJ3B
Raj Goli Tata TL 4x4
DKG CJ3B

Bangalore

Ravikn

Mumbai

Devang
