EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location

There was a young gent who once made an impulsive buy of a Red Classic
One day, in an equally impulsive mood he sold it off to a jeep lover from a far off land in the South.

But after a few days he started missing his old flame and his mood became pensive and despondent

His good friends tried to talk some sense into him

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-explain.jpg

But he kept looking in the rear view mirror waiting for her to appear

They took him to exotic locations where he remained aloof

Failing which, tried to distract him with other temptations

Without much success

So they conferred together

And decided to fight fire with fire, going back into the heart of another old flame, who held in her bosom, some perennial favorites like

Slush

Water

And lush green pastures.

So this is the story of what happened next

At Mahape on the 26th of Sept 2010...

That's wonderful OTR I feel. Allan's slush drive is deadly one. More pictures please. Did Tejas get to come out of his pensive mood at all ?

@genesis: Oh boy! Eloquent poetry + a muddy OTR to cheer up a despondent dentist. Or is there a bit of depression in you too, considering the JK-3b is still in third?

@dwaraka: I think the emotions see sawed through the morning a bit like this but we ended up fine

@SS: You mean I should try to drown my feelings in drink like some of my esteemed friends?

Genesis,

That is one hell of a narration and photos to match. You got one for every situation, don't you.

Looking forward to the rest!

Lol!! Great start Soumya, please unravel the rest of the tale.

Just my two bits. This is what an OTR should be like. Everyone was on time. Keeping in mind the pensive weather conditions, the OTR started in the Dark at the crack of dawn (5:30 am to be exact) and we had tackled at least three to four obstacles by the time the morning sun was setting in. We were out of the place by 10:00am which could have been an hour earlier but we should all take this as a great start. OTRs are going to be more scarce as the sun gets stronger and the rains fade away so if this schedule is stuck to, its going to be great fun!! Keep it up guys. We had a fantastic time. I have one more thing to add. A new found respect for the Toyota Fortuner. I was amazed by the torque, its ability to just slither through any kind of slush with relative ease (an in air conditioned comfort i might like to add). IMHO, it has better GC than the rest of the so called SUV's (with the exception of the Mahindra line up) and great pedigree. If mated with a proper set of tyres and bumpers for off roading and say a klift of another 4-5", this machine will kill it.

Now thats what i call a perfect day.

After such a satisfying day today, the narration is taking it to another level all together. Soumya, please unfold the rest of the story, dying to see the pictures. I have only one video of devang going through the slush and back, will upload it tomorrow.

I totally agree with Gogi Bhai, the best part of today was that all reached early and we started the trail ontime, the first obstacle in dark was amazing and made it more challenging. After today Fortuner has seriously earned respect and rightly said with proper mods, this vehicle can make offroading more intresting.

One more thing, the Mahape site should be done more frequently it has all the ingredients, Slush, Water, Descents everything and it is very close to my place .

With the decreasing rain and increasing heat, the start time was fixed at 7am, then moved to 6 and finally to 5 am. People adopted their own strategies to meet the deadline from setting morning alarms to sending sms's throughout the night but the wisest (or should it be the wildest) just stayed up all night in anticipation.

But as we all know there are many paths to salvation and lo and behold everyone was present at the crack of dawn (including Devang!) and we set off into the hinterland under the watchful guidance of the local villager.

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-villager.jpg

Leaving apart the maze of entering the area, the approach was pretty easy as we proceeded in convoy, barring a tricky spot where a sharp rock could have cut the tyres.

As night turned into day, we stopped to catch our breath on the nice green terrain, which looked really nice and smooth

With opportunities for adventure

But could easily trap the unsuspecting with its numerous mudpits and rocks

Which gave moments of unexpected comic relief

But then it was time to move on

To some hard core slush...

Gogi's CJ charged headfirst into a slush track

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-gogi_slush1.jpg

Only to get bogged down

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-gogi_slush2.jpg

But freed himself by reversing back and forth

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-gogi_slush3.jpg

Once all the vehicles had negotiated that patch, Allan led the way around the bend

And sat down to have some fun

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-allan_rest.jpg

As the whale beached itself on a giant mound

EXO Mahape OTR- An Impulsive Outing At A Classic Location-fortuner_beach.jpg

And had to be towed out

Followed by the CJ (Which also lost its clutch linkage at this point)

In the meantime, the show men in the group used this opportunity to strut their stuff

Which was good for the pretty boys, since what lay ahead, would be a test of man and machine...
