A few more OTR's and I think pretty much everyone will understand that for the kind of OTR's we do in India the Thar is more than a match and people's concerns are completely misplaced. Like you said its now the ease and comfort with which you reach OTR spots that will eventually weigh heavily on why people will gravitate toward a Thar as the OTR's really aren't tough to warrant a solid axle setup.

Its surprising that nobody is saying a good word about THAR ! No detailed pics ! and started digging again .

I think all this means That the Thar proved what it can do over the old generations .

But off-road for some reason or the other we haven't seen the Thar tackle and Major Descents/Climb Downs, even in AKC 2010, "the big descent" was avoided.

A descent high lights quite a few things in the vehicle.
i) Suspension
ii) Gearing
iii) Brakes

The negative attitude, is a result of M&M attitude towards the customers.

Thar has proven nothing, it is doing exactly what was predicted in JAN2010, Newer and Better on road, and just about manages to do what the older JEEPs do effortlessly. (Sunny Deol vs Hrithik Roshan )

Regards,

Arka

PS - Next Time fit a winch and have some one less experienced drive the vehicle off-road (representative of the sample population who will buy this vehicle)
Which desent was that Arka? AFAIK we tackled every thing that was thrown at us.

BTW in this day and age whom does one prefer...sunny deol or Hritik Roshan? Many would say hritik roshan right?

I didnt find any issue with THAR's crawling ability both up and down. Yes slight tapping of brakes is required as it is running on 4.3 ratio. But is it a big problem as most Di's run 4.27 ratio which is higher?

Yes, i cursed myself this time for not being prepared enough. I didnt have winch on my vehicle when one was available in our workshop. Next time i will make sure prateesh will drive THAR with the winch and i will be his spotter :-P

This picture was taken on the 1st day when one of the Jeep was toppled. (Nice PTO and Diff guard setup though)

The 2nd Day, When self and Santhosh were driving end of the convoy lost the path and started driving on a different direction. We realized that we went far away from the team after we saw a small dot (Jeep) climbing on a hill. (excuse me for the picture quality, Nokia to be blamed)

Sir the Key word is it manages and not cannot do. I am sure with some improvements it would do things effortlessly too.

The sample population is not going to buy this vehicle for hardcore or softcore offroading. They would buy it to tackle the streets and rough roads by which i mean places where the path is there.

I would humbly request you to not spoil this thread with the Thar's pro and cons. As you and many others have done it over and over again in the Thar Crde thread. please carry this there if you like. Thank you.

My dear sir I am of no consequence ! The Thar will bear itself out. Why the impatience ?? Besides, start saving for a new Thar for yourself when you finally realise it will handle ALL the Indian OTR's

My Dearer Sir,

The Thar will definitely bare itself out.

I have definitely started saving for a New Thar, but I would definitely hope you pickup one soon, then you wouldn't have miss out on ALL the Indian OTRs.

Re: Bangalore Aavalakonda Annual OTR 2011 | Participants Report

The Thar was right behind my vehicle on day 1.

It did everything effortlessly including the long climb where we had to push our jeeps to the limit.

The only problem i saw was stones touching the lower arms, this problem will solve if we use 7.00 16 NDMS.

With bigger NDMS ,i am sure it will do aavalakonda comfortably ,since it has a better total articulation than our japnese counterparts which were struggling even in simple obstacles.

Arka , even i had to use brakes in some places while going down the hill ,old tech drum brakes , the thar having discs it would be a piece of cake assuming we use controlled braking and not slamming the pedal.

All of our Hyderabad boys liked its performance .

Jokes aside are you disappointed with the Thar? Didn't you get to drive one on the OTR?

Re: Bangalore Aavalakonda Annual OTR 2011 | Participants Report

I don't see why a bunch of folks are advocating not to discuss the Thar. Am sure if it had broken its bad bad IFS, I am sure I would have seen a lot of gloating threads about how Tbhp predicted right!

Also, I don't agree about getting a noob driver to drive the Thar - that doesn't matter. People learn over time, and nobody in their right mind would do the Nurburgring with a noob driver to prove their new car.

The Thar in the OTR is stock in comparison to the souped up vehicles I see in all the photos. This is a great win for me - imagine what the Thar can do when it is souped up!

If all you need to see is the Thar doing the missed out parts in OTR, let us ask for that. Else no point in screaming sour grapes - It is a very useful skill to lose arguments with dignity. Thar kicked some serious *** on the high way and cleared all except one obstacles in the OTR. Give Vinod some credit / trust when he says he had to leave early and there the discussion ends.

I am not sorry for the outburst above. It is very frustrating for anyone to win an argument and not get a dignified acknowledgement.

Can we switch our stand to a "pro-thar" mode now? (I know - shocking).

Clearly lots of love going around the forums at this time

Thoroughly enjoyed the OTR reports, pictures, videos and of course...the post-event ramblings.

My Dearest Sir,

I'm disappointed with the Thar when I realised it had IFS, that is way back in Jan 2010.

The focus on the vehicle is too much for road and dirt-track, and hence it has become a compromise off-road.

Drove it for some time in Mumbai, didn't even get to see it off-road in Bangalore

Regards,

Arka
