Excellent initiative Arka.

I love TPC for the terrain it offers & the off-road possibilities at the Palar river bed. Looking forward to it again this year and 3 days of fun.

Hat's off to you and the marshals/volunteers for making this happen.

Do put up the costs soon so that we can arrange money

Re: TPC2011 - India's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Is there a simpler/easier terrain for novices like me to take part, looks like too many experts for people like me to venture into the competition

Hi Raj,

From TPC2010, we Introduced a separate Trophy (First Amongst the First Timers) for the Newcomer Teams to TPC.

So the Newcomer actually compete for 2 Team Trophies.
1) Winner of TPC
2) First Amongst the First Timers.

If a newcomer team scores max points then it Becomes the Winner of TPC, and the Newcomers Team with the next highest points wins the First Amongst the First Timer Trophy.

The Rules and Regulations are same for both the categories, except for the fact that newcomer team cannot have a single person who has competed in any previous TPC.

Regards,

Arka

PS - How will too many experts, affect you performance in a competition?

For TPC as an Organiser or as a Competitor we suggest that the person has prior off-road experience. (at least 3 OTRs) .

The Regular Chennai OTRs will resume after TPC2011, Sept-Oct 2011.

Thank you Arka, I understand. Having not been to to any OTRs, I wont be able to participate in TPC 2011 but I would certainly like to come watch! Hopefully I will be in town when it is happening (I am aware of the dates, just not sure of my travel schedule yet). I might even bring my Endeavour there in case I get to give it a sniff of the sand. Or it might be better to not.

Either way, I'm very excited to have discovered and to be a part of this great community! Good luck to all the TPC 2011 participants! I will be the super tall guy giving some bird's eye view info if requested

This has been completed successfully yesterday; the weather God(s) were benevolent...not too much sun.
The Palar river-bed never ceases to amaze me with regard to the variety of off-road terrain if offers !

You can say that again... This recce was probably the longest we've had this year but was not very tiring. The weather makes all the difference here in the sands.

Couldn't take too many action shots as we were concentrating a lot on finalizing our respective SS.

Re: TPC2011 - India's Toughest Off-Road Competition

Adventure Zone on Google Maps:
Adventure Zone

There is a Fueling station about 5Km from Adventure Zone towards Veepancheri. We recommend you do not fuel-up here due to fuel quality issues.

Please tank-up either on GST road (NH-45) or on ECR (SH-49)

You can buy snacks and soft-drinks at Madurantakam or Veepanchery

Air filling stations and Puncture repair shops are few and far between. If available - it will help to carry your own puncture repair kit and air compressor.

Although there is no "dress-code" for this event, it will help to cover yourself from head to toe with light breathable clothing. The sun is very intense regardless of the level of cloud cover.

You can buy ice from the Kalpakkam ice factory to store in your ice boxes.

Ok which is the best route to take from BLR? Google maps says take turn from vellore instead of last times at Kanchipuram? Any idea?

The Kanchipuram>> Chengalpattu>> Maduranthagam should be a better route.

Edit:

Adding Distances.
Kanchipuram to Chengalpattu : 35kms
Chengalpattu to Madurantakam: 28kms
Madurantakam to Adventure Zone: 12kms

Cheers!
