Repainting a '62 LHD CJ3B 4WD

We are about to repaint this jeep back to the original factory colour which was a bluish-gray, local painters call refer to the colour as 'kabutri' (pigeon like). Would be grateful for any any references or photographs to the original shade.

Which paint company do you suggest we go with, Duco, Dupont?
Do not want to much of a shine & gloss on the final finish.

The petrol engine has been beautifully restored by UBS from Cal. We still have the original weathered Registration book with one person name on it.
Pic taken 2006.

10 years old pic..

Why not Dupont......?

Dupont also have semi gloss paint for the finish you desire.

The jeep looks fab as is right now, would suggest not to get into re-restoration.

Pavan,

The photographs you are seeing were taken in 2006, unfortunately she does need a coat of paint.

chassis - semi gloss black
body & wheel rims - back to original factory colour.

Dear Sat - I recieved your PM, sorry for a somewhat delayed response. Is this RJE628 by any chance? It had a trailer also. It was in Gujarat, isn't it? If I remember correctly, the name of the color is "Pearl Ash". This color was also used in Premier President in 1972.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Behram,

This is RJE 626, the jeep has always been in Rajasthan, still owned by the same person who purchased the jeep in Ahmadabad in 1962. The owner cannot recollect why he took delivery of this jeep in Ahmadabad, when he has always lived in Rajasthan.

sudharshan, thank you for the photo, the image posted by genesis is closest to the colour we have in mind.

best regards,

sat

Repainting a 62 LHD CJ3B

I think the colour of this jeep (the front grill) is closest to the original factory colour of the cj3b.

Lovely colour on this Mahindra jeep by JeepFreak, what the painter refer to as 'Kabutri' aka Pigeon...

I did Shiraz, though the painter could not match the shade I wanted, it turned out lighter. I had no choice but to courier the painter a colour print of the jeep above (see jeep pic above, posted 31st Aug, 2011) since I was traveling and could not personally match and approve the shade. All attempts of getting a photograph or copy of the original shade card failed.

In time I will add another coat of paint to get the correct shade..

Sat, please try to post some pictures of the lighter shade before you add another coat. I am contemplating a lighter shade for mine and at the moment I am just saving the pictures of jeeps, and airplanes too, that I like

Re: Repainting a '62 LHD CJ3B 4WD

Shiraj,

Apologies for the delay, here are the images of the jeep which is too light for my liking. She is a pleasure to drive, petrol engine was restored by UBS in Kolkata which I am very happy with.

All the best.

Re: Repainting a '62 LHD CJ3B 4WD

Sat, congrats man! I, for one, loved the color and unless you really dislike it I suggest you keep it like this. And yes, I am sure that with UBS working his magic on the Hurricane, she must be running ultra smooth as well! I also see the addition of FWH, nice

Cheers and drive safe mate!
