1944 Ford GPW : Restoration Help?

Hello,

Bought this 1944 Ford GPW sometime back and planning to restore this completely. I'm a Zero when it comes to Jeeps. Can you please suggest as to what should I be looking for when I restore. I wish to pay attention to detail. If you can let me know what all should I be paying attention to while restoration, I will follow up with the process accordingly. I presently have a Peugeot Diesel Engine and a 2WD 4 speed gearbox. I have attached a few pics herewith....Thanks so much......Lockheed

Re: 1944 Ford GPW : Restoration Help Please

first you need to get all the information on the stock GPW & specs,

search the vintage section of Tbhp.

& search the net for more info on the colors , engines , accessories used in the original GPW.

rgds,
Nikhil

sorry if my post is outdated but may I ask how you are able to tell if this is 1944 and a GPW?

Lockheed,

Congratulations on your Jeep.

Though the RC may show it as a 44 GPW, do take MathewJ's question in the right spirit and let fellow members help you in ascertaining if this is a replica or original.

More photographs of interiors, exteriors showing details are important,
for eg. in your pics. it shows that the U leaf shackles used in Ford Jeeps are not there etc.
.

Congratulations on your purchase. I came across this interesting read and not sure of where to post. Thought it might be of some interest to you, now that you want to rebuild it
completely.

Good luck with your rebuild.

There is something in the 4x4 technical too. How could you forget ?

If anyone wants to restore it to original, I think theses links are best.

What do you want to do ? Restore it retro style and install a GO Devil petrol engine ? If yes it will require a lot of scouting for parts.

@Lockheed: any updates on the rebuild process? did you get the information you were looking for? how and where did you source the parts from?

There's one Ford GPW getting re-build at Bolton Concepts,Bangalore you might find it interesting?!

Cheers,
