Mitsubishi J26 Jeep KM141 gearbox question

It is getting difficult to change down into 2nd when the box has warmed up. So I am thinking of changing the 4 speed Km141 box or getting it re engineered.

I would appreciate any tips or suggestions people might have.

the engine is the original 2.4 4 cylinder 4G53 ASTRON.

Hi Invicta,

This problem is usually attributed to a worn out Synchroniser Cone/Ring, also this problem can be compounded by worn out Gear Box Bearings.

Looks like your JEEP A Gearhead in Need » GEARBOX MAGAZINE

As the the oil warms up and thins out, the clearance between the Synchro and Main Gear Shaft increases, worst case the Synchro may jump out (just a little bit)and the gearbox will get stuck in that gear.

You can try using a GL5 85W140 Gear Oil, and see if there is any improvement.

After that you can decide on rebuilding the gearbox or changing it.

Regards,

Arka

PS - Please post some pics of your JEEP.
