One other thing you might want to check. As cars age and the ignition switch wears, heavy key chains hanging from the ignition key can turn the key by their shear weight. You very well may have a bad steering box and kingpin.
These are both serious matters that need to be checked. But I would check out the ignition switch itself. Lots of keys and/or weight hanging from a key chain can cause problems.
