Team-BHP - Water Wading Depth of the Safari, XUV500, Duster etc.

I have taken my Duster 85ps through about a feet+ of water (wont wager my life on the exact eater level) and later realized that it could have been a close shave. However, during the short wade, there was zero issues. No hydroplaning, or engine shudder.

I have sold it off and now looking at buying the Creta- but to my chagrin, NO information at all on the water wading depth or any other SUV "characteristics" Approach/Departure angle, ramp breakover angle etc.
Does any one know that data for the Creta AT ?

Yesterday it was pouring very heavily and google led me to a road that was about 3 feet deep in water for about 50m to 70m, somewhere near tin factory. Quite a few cars broke down and were slowly getting submerged.
I could wade through this deep water in 1st gear (maybe having AWD helped too) and could steadily progress and escape this hell.

Coming to which, are there any simple mods anybody easily could do to enhance their vehicles water wading ability in monsoons? Mods that are easily reversible after the rains subside? And if that is possible, to what extent could one increase their water wading capability?

P.S - I am in no way suggesting people to try this adventure in the rain, just as a defence during monsoons and in case of emergencies only.

The Thar has the intake opening just behind the headlights. So, I'd say water touching the mud guards is not recommended.

You take a Thar to water and the first thing to go kaput will be the MAF in the airfilter - costs ~8000IIRC.

I would drive in Low Gear, burning some clutch and keeping Engine RPM high to keep Water away from Exhaust.
The casualty in wading through water is the F/Glass flaps around the Wheel Wells and any flimsy flap / skid sheet below the Oil Chamber.

These are generally fixed Inside out and strong enough to withstand minor Air Pressure around it during driving but the Water pressure acts strongly and dislodges them. I have seen Cars coming out of Water with a sense of satisfaction on the faces of the Drivers but with skid sheets and Wheel well flaps dangling below.

A snorkel is a fairly easy mod, and also has additional benefit of longer life of air filter if you are driving frequently on dusty tracks

Jeep Compass’ owners manual states 40.5 cms as the maximum depth while driving through standing water.

That does not sound like much.
40cm is around 3/4th Mark of an average Hatchback tyre (15inch).

I hope, the manual is under quoting the capability.

It all depends on what level the air intake is.

A high car may have a low level intake and a hatch may have an intake at a higher level.
