Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

Hi Guys,

Recently 19 & 30 Spline Selectable; Cable Actuated Differential Lock, made by Lambda Engineering and marketed by Swastik Fabs were released in the market.

Swastik Viji sent a 30 Spline Diff-Lock to me for testing and creating an installation SOP.

For me the development of INDIAN made selectable differential locks, is a real game changer, in off-roading.

19 Spline Differential Lock is suitable - Mahindra Jeeps & Boleros

30 Spline Differential Lock is Suitable - Mahindra Thar, Scorpio, Tata Safari, Xenon & Sumo.

Let me post the pics, and then I will go into installation details.

Regards,

Arka

re: Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

Arka, thanks for the update. But from what I hear, the price is about 45K or so for a set which is keeping a whole lot of guys back from investing in it.

The reality is that only a few jeepers can afford to get equipment that costs 45K and that is why you see winches on only a handful of our jeeps.

Instead of following the ferrari model of selling few at astronomical prices, if Lambda where to price it realistically, they can make the same profits from higher volumes.

re: Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

Hi Arka, Viji sir

Couple of obervations, Questions (to Lamda & Viji sir may be). I know a few answers, but this post could be a FAQ for the uninformed if you could write up the answers.

1) The pumpkin guard from Viji takes a small cut to accomodate the new custom-diff-cover from Lamda I suppose?

2) Is the cable a commonly available part, looks like a clutch cable from some jeep?

3) If the cable snaps in a OTR (Looks exposed, viji potential for a custom cover plate?), is the default 'cable-fail' position 'diff-lock' or 'diff-open' position? (pic depicts open is default, spring loaded is lock position)

4) Could you please post pics of parts removed from the Jeep to understand the mod better? Looks like the old housing with 4 spiders are the only removed parts, right?

5) Is the Entire box contents fabricated/manufactured in Lamda's facility from a block of metal (/M&M Spares like cable) ? Or is even 1 small % imported? (Servicability and ease of spares POV)

Lamda -- As few voiced here and in the past, cost is currently the only deterrent, please try to make it a little more affordable (volume vs niche)

re: Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

I have a question
1. Price for Tata Safari
2. How easy it is to fit. Simple open and install, or requires complex part replacement. Remember a 4x4 safari comes with a LSD in the rear. You would need to remove the LSD and fit in this, I presume?
3. How good is waterproofing? If diff goes into water, does water come in through the cable access point?

Safari has a Dana 44 rear axle. However, if I recall the crown/pinion ratio is 3.73. The Dana 44 diff carriers is different for 3.73 and lower (numerically) higher than 3.73. I suspect that Lambda has designed it for MM550/Thar etc that come with a 4.3/4.27/4.88 diff ratio. The bolt pattern/holes to hold the crown gear are different for both carriers, hence I don't think it can be installed on a vehicle that has 3.73 ratio.

Yes I too have this doubt .

My first impressions

# Its a great news

# As Santosh said, the above point No. 3.

## I would like a cast iron (read solid) diff cover instead of the original sheet metal modified one. This is the only weak link that can be seen from the pics.

Cheers for the product to succeed & sell in numbers, so that it will come at a affordable price.

Re: Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

Hi,
To add to the points mentioned above
1) What is the cost of the Eaton Autolocker? (Lets not get into Autolockers vs MLDs here)
2) Views of anyone (with shopfloor/ manufacturing experience) visited/ taken a walk through Lambda's facilities.
3) Lambda manufactures all parts or some are bought out. Imported or otherwise.
3) The modified diff cover: Supplied by Lambda, or modified at users end?
4) Selector fork: actuating shaft has positive detents?
5) Selector fork: Apart from water resistance, what are the chances of it rusting and freezing?
6) What is the force necessary to engage? While running engaged, how hot will the fork get?
7) Showcased/ trialed in any OTR?

Regards
Sutripta

Hi guys i am back after the ban, on my original id that i love the most "hate tar" which truly explains the offroad devil in me, the difflocks are a must for winners as they were in all the coorg team jeeps at palar , those guys just drove like lighting over the obstacles and were a dream to see. They won a very well deserved first place. all the above questions are very valid and i am eagerly waiting for the responses albeit i have started saving for the same.

Re: Indian Diff-Lock for the Dana44 19 & 30 Spline Axles

You could fab some protection for the linkage. You could encase at least part of the cable linkage in a piece of large diameter water pipe, e.g. 2-3 inch diameter. You might want to cut the pipe lengthwise part way or all the way....hard to tell from the photos...

Hi, Not all the coorg jeeps were having diff locks

They had an excellent combination of spotter and driver and THAT worked to the T

IMO, There is mention of Boleros in OP.
Bolero also has 3.73 diff ratio (So does Thar MDI). So is it not fit for Boleros?

The Diff casing does not look like its supplied by lambda. Its looks more like modified by installer himself.

I am also eager to know the ease of fitment & water resistant part.

May be a detailed scan of installation manual or steps can be helpful.

Arka,

Looking forward to a detailed report.
Apart from the valid questions from our fellow members, what about the waterproofing or lack out it?

2 jeeps had them out of three in the group that came first, we lost by 13 points only and were unfortunate because on the first day we did only 5 ss and they did 6. their spotters were spot on i agree,
