I would stay stock and adjust the driving to suit the needs. The suspensions may not by themselves bring the change that you are looking for. Spend more time driving the car and then revisit this requirement. Bilstein offroad shocks are available too just in case you want to factor that in as an option.

This is what I wanted to do - adjust driving according to the suspensions. But after the trip to Agumbe through very bad roads, the way the suspension is behaving at low speeds, I feel the car would be much more enjoyable with a better suspension. As this is the only car I have for all my trips, I want to avoid compromising, and hence the decision to upgrade.

I don't think upgrading suspension will help you much. This chassis has limitations. Not just the suspension but steering and coming from BMW with that suspension, I can feel for you:sadface

Consider switching to BF tyres first and see if that helps. If you must upgrade, start with Bilstein shocks as suggested by megazoid. Also, for your local runs maybe add Hycross in your garage.

Ideally, you should have got yourself the X5. With around 10-15 lac discounts, it just make so much sense. Good thing is that Fortuner has good resales, but don't spend too much to make it something which is not going to happen :coldsweat

Haha. Believe me. I am not trying to make a BMW out of the Toyota :D

I am just trying to solve the limitations that can be solved. Even after suspension upgrade, I don't expect the Fortuner to corner like the 3GT. That it will not due to the high COG and BOF architecture. But I will have the flexibility to tune the behaviour within reasonable limits. My fundamental requirements still remain the same - a reliable car, low on maintenance cost, that can take me anywhere.

Hi all,

I am planning to upgrade the stock suspensions in my 2024 Fortuner 4x4 AT. The main requirement is to add comfort at low speed ride on bad roads and also reduce body roll and increase stability at high speeds.

My ex-colleague had the adjustable tough dog suspension on his 2022/2023 Fortuner. He was super happy with the upgrade. I had a chance to drive as passenger on kaccha roads for around 20-30 kms. The ride quality was very good at low speeds on broken roads. I do not know what setting he had dialed on the suspension. I felt the ride quality at speeds under 40 kmph very good and composed. The sway was minimal and controlled. I have not sat in a Fortuner with OEM suspension. So, I cannot give a comparison.

Maybe check with someone who has these installed on their Fortuner and take a longish drive.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I have been trying to find a Fortuner with these suspensions installed to test drive (or at least ride shotgun) but have been unsuccessful. Yours is the first feedback I have received from someone who has been inside one. This helps a lot.

I am going ahead with the suspension installation this weekend. I will document the installation and performance of the suspensions in detail so that it is helpful to others in my situation.

Once again, thank you so much for the first-hand feedback :)

Update on the Fortuner suspensions:

Last week, I installed the Tough Dog Foamcell Pro suspensions in my Fortuner. Got the installation done at 6th Mile Customs in Bangalore, who are the dealers for Tough Dog.

First impression is very good. These offer a very significant improvement in ride comfort in the softer settings, while keeping the high speed handling at highway speeds good.

I have documented the installation and experience with these suspensions in detail in the below thread.
