Team-BHP - Track N Go: Wheel-driven track system for snow!

Hi folks, I came across this video on Facebook on Track N Go, claimed to be the first ever wheel track system.

Well, it's certainly not the first ever, though I suppose it could possibly be the first mass-produced or commercially available or whatever.

Up here in Manali a certain locally-married foreign national with a good workshop had some years ago developed a track-drive system for Gypsy's which he was trying to sell to the Army, as I heard it. It underwent some serious testing (friends witnessed it plying in the snow high off the Rohtang Road somewhere up above Chaudha More), but AFAIK nothing finally came of it. His name is Roddy and he was into heli-skiing operations earlier, if you're ever up in the area and have the (unlikely?) need of such a re-fit for a Gypsy.

I have personal experience back in 1997 in Norway when I was with a Norwegian colleague who took me in the Snowy backcountry in a modified VW Beetle that had similar tracks on each wheel for traction and grip on snow.

The difference was that the normal wheels were completely removed and replaced with tracks at each wheel. So it was dedicated for use on Snow only

Due to the steep and mountainous terrain found in most Himalayan regions of India such a contraption will have limited utility except perhaps in relatively flat parts of Kashmir valley, Ladakh or Spiti region

The jeeps look very unstable. Looks like they are jacked almost a feet in the air.
I think one must be super extra cautious while using these tracks.

I have seen a few vehicles where the wheels were completely removed and fit with tracks. I am sure stability would be greater in this case.
