Hi, can anyone please confirm if a wide track gypsy's body will fit on a narrow track platform? My 1990 narrow track body is completely rusted out and beyond repair. Few of the good ones on sale are all post 2005 gypsy king 413W bodies.

Also is swapping body tubs on gypsy as easy as on jeeps?

I have seen few narrow track Gypsy's fitted with 413w bodies so I think it'd doable. But it looks very odd with narrow tracks. I believe there is not much difference in the body apart from the wide arcs over the tyres and bonnet.

Can be fitted but there are some modification you will have to do for changing the mounts for body.

Thanks Jaggu, I hope it's not too much work. Where I live, it's pretty hard to find a good mechanic let alone a tinker. I wonder if the axle or the chassis that is wider?

Wait! are you planning other things to be transferred? Like axle? Very honestly if you don't have access to good mechs and tinkers don't venture. It is better to get a working wide track gypsy and get it fixed to your needs.

The axle, transmission etc are different and if you are planning to swap all that, it is going to be a huge task without assistance. Financially also it wont make sense.

No sir only the body. I was just wondering what's the difference between narrow and wide tracks.

Looks odd because the chassis is narrow? I'm wondering if the odd look can be fixed with wider tyres.

You can search through forum and find some of the older threads on similar modification and transplant. One such https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-v...0-mg413-2.html

Edit: other details of exact track width difference etc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_Gypsy

I believe it could be the axles from 410w which could be shorter in width and also the arcs from the 413w behind the reason for odd looks.

If you choose the right (-ve)offset wheels + wider tyres then surely you could make some difference in looks for sure. I have seen gypsies fitted with their standard rims in side out configuration and the offset changes quite a lot. You could even have spacers made but that would put some strain on the stock bearings.

PM @Harjeev or if someone can get him to reply to this thread. He can surely help you in making up your mind to how you want to proceed with your build.
