Hi David?

Why would you say that? Any past experience? I changed all the wheel bearings, king pin, knuckle kit, just before changing tires as routine maintenance (Around 18K and 3-4 yrs back) Never had a reason to look back at it. And I push my vehicle in the OTR's and do deep water fording (you can check pics somewhere earlier in this thread) Now that you have mentioned it I will get them serviced before this monsoon and update here.

cheers

Just checking cause a lot of people are saying the heavy army rims and 10 ply tyres will cause a lot of problems.
This sounds good am in touch with speedways the are saying 4500 per tyre + 490 tube + 150 transport also checking with ATF.

Thanks for the feedback

Pavan Anand and Gurpreet Singh on the 4x4 tyres and alloys Facebook pages have a lot of options. The Onyx wheels in particular look really really nice. Attaching a pic.

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

I’m looking for the brandname and model of a particular rim. I saw it in this same thread from username Kandisa on January 4, 2012. I’m attaching a picture. Anyone know the brand name and model of this rim? I want to put a set on my Mahindra Thar. Thanks for your assistance.

Just a small word of caution; do check the availability of A/T tyres in 16" if you intend to replace the tyres also. These alloys were put by another fellow jeeper Randeep in his refurbished 550.

re: The Offroad Rims & Tyres Thread

Hi,
Does anyone know where I can pick either of below tires. Are these still being manufactured? I draw a blank on the respective websites.

1. JK LT 2000 4x4

I clicked this pic with tires mounted in a mobile gen-set chasis!! I guess they must be pretty cheap. If I had my way I would have bought all 4 there and then. Brand new and 7.50 - 16 size. The bloke dint had a clue where these were procured from and dint wish to sell either.

2. Some Goodyear tires

This pic is off the net, maybe from T-BHP only. I cant recollect. Love these tires. These have bigger sipes than JK so shall perform better in wet conditions as well.

I am in town for replacement tires for my 550. I need 7.50-16 AT/MT or equivalent. Kindly pour in suggestions.

Please dont suggest tires like mudzillas @12500 a piece. I simply cant afford such atrociously priced tires. I picked all 5 of my last set for about 18K

cheers

Those are good year G 90 tyres. Hard to source and they do not fall in your price range of 18-20k for a set of 5 :(

In general, these days 16 inch tyres are getting harder and harder to source. People end up putting 15 inch and bigger tyres to get the same overall dimensions.

235/75/15 Trepadors are running at around 6.x k a piece.

Hi Genesis,
Thanks for the reply.
6-7k a piece is affordable with a slight pinch. Trepador is a good all-round tire.

Now 235/75/15 will be 235*0.75*2+15*25.4 = 352.5+381 = 733.5

My current tires 7.5-16 will be (7.5+7.5+16)*25.4 = 787.4

So I will loose GC of (787.4-733.5)/2 = 26.95 i.e. about an inch.

Is the above calculation right? Can this tire be mounted on Gypsy rims?

What is the cost of GY G90 and JK LT 2000 4x4 any idea? Availability?

cheers

Hi Vishwas,

The 7.50x16 is ~31 inches and the 235/75 R15 is ~ 29 inches so your calculation is right. The Maxxis tyre that Genesis mentions fit perfectly on the Gypsy rims and would be a worthwhile and cost-effective option except for the loss of GC.

Cheers,
Adi

Endeavour, these onyx wheels are super, I really like them but it seems everyone and their mother is buying these wheels !!! Sadly they might become too common.
