Also, could you guys point out a place in Bangalore to purchase steel rims? I have to change mine and Sai Iyengar deals only in tires and not rims.

how about the recently launched Yokohama Geolandar M/T+? Only 15" is available in India. Not sure about the width and aspect ratio.

however these are directional tires, so may not suit your requirement.

here's the company link
Yokohama Tires ? Geolandar M/T+ Off Road Performance

Hello people!
I have a query - can Honda CRV alloys (16") be used on a maruti gypsy?

If yes, then I'd also like to know if I could put 235 size tyres on them..

Thank you!

On fitting alloys on a Gypsy

I was speaking to a tire dealer friend today. Deals in alloys as well.

I told him of my imminent plan of buying a Gypsy, and that I wanted to fit 215/75 R15 Geolandar ATs and Alloy Rims. He strongly warned me against going for alloys.

According to him, the Gypsy comes with 6.5/16 wheel size and 139.5mm PCD. No alloy maker now has an alloy in that size. The few that you get in 139.5mm PCD would be 8 inch instead of 6.5 inch. That means the tyre would get stretched abnormally after fitting. So fitting the Geolandars on Stock rims is the best way to go.

One point he added was that Aura, at one time, made alloys in Gypsy size. It might be possible that some dealer somewhere in India would still have Auras in that size. I may search for Auras if I must have alloys.

So 3 questions:

1. Is my friend correct about the alloy size? If yes, what are my chances of finding the correct alloys?

2. If I cant find alloys, is it safe to fit tubeless radials on steel rims? The car will be subjected to off road, so what if the steel rims bend or something?

3. Suppose I still go for 8/15 size, what size of tyre should I be looking at?

Ankit they will set you back by 9500 for 31x10.5 R15

But I wont recommend having had 2 sets of Yoko in 30000 kms what I have felt is

1. Side walls are soft, prone to punctures.

2. Less noise and good braking in wet conditions.

If planning to take them offroad I would not recommend Yoko at this point of time from my experience but yes many people in NIOC have Yoko Geo and they swear by it.

Though Arka has suggested me Michelin, and I have them on my Safari and they are turning out to be excellent tyres. My next set would Michelin ATX.

The Gypsy has ALWAYS COME WITH 15" rims only.
And as for the 139.5 PCD it is easily available in all international brands.
I have seen it in Lenso, League etc

Yes you can run tubeless on steel rims. you will have an issue of deflating only if you have a serious bend in your rim.

You are opting for the standard upsize for Gypsy's (215/75R15) the max that will fit in without modification is 235/75R15.
The original size is (I think - I may be wrong) the equivalent of 195/75R15

Time to upgrade tyres for my Grand Vitara. The OE size is 225.70.R16. I am planning an upgrad to 235.70.R16 or 235.75.R16. Either BF Goodrich All terrain or Michelin LTX AT. Price I am getting in Jaipur for BF is 5800/- per tyre and for Michelin 6400/- per tyre. The dealer says BF will affect the drive quality in a negative way.

What do you guys suggest? I prefer BF over Michelin due to its aggressive pattern and stronger side wall. Is the price correct, has anyone bought recently?

Has any GV owner used 235 in his car? Feedback?

My another question is will it be ok to upgrade to 235.75.R16 and do we get BF in that specification or any other brand in AT? I want more height without increasing the width, what are my options?

Even Sudev uses 23570R16 Michelin LTX in his Grand Vitara.
He has been running these for a long time(10,000kms+)
apart from that I saw his friends using Yokohama Geolander AT/S 235/70R16 on an OTR

B Goodrich is marketed by Michelin.
Sometime around June,. they stopped offering All Terrain TA/KO. So the dealer may have old stock. If you are picky about getting older tires, then go for current tires from Michelin - LTX.
Otherwise, you can look at Continental Cross contact AT, which I run on my safari, they are around 300-400 cheaper than michelin LTX

They are right, this particular tyre is known to be very noisy. That is not good for a highway cruiser.

GV owners in India have no choice, you have to upgrade to 235, there is no 225 available.

It is a tight squeeze to mount the 235 Michelins into the spare wheel holder. With a strong sidewalled BF, it may be impossible to mount it. Even with 235 michelins, I have not been able to put the spare wheel cover. I need to try harder I suppose.

So you missed that Ramayan. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...cceptable.html (18 months old Michelin LTX AT2 - How old tyres are acceptable?)

Think again, spare wheel mount... road noise...

So far the GV on Michelin LTX AT2 feels much more assured and even has better grip and comfort. I have restricted the daily drives to 1-2kms since I have to return couple of those tyres.

Whatever you buy, check the tyre age, dealer won't do it for you.
