Change electric 4x4 shift to a manual 4x4 lever?

I have a Telecoline 4x4 which soon have to undergo FC test as approaching 15years. I bought it new in Feb 2008. As I am preparing for FC wonder, whether I can let go of the electric shift and go for a Manual single lever actuator.

I have seen someone who has done this on a Tata Sumo 4x4 which used to use the same Borg-Warner unit. Any pointers on who could undertake such a work in Kerala or in Bangalore?

FC process will not check for 4x4 working. Your vehicle condition (preferably stock looks without undue extension and modifications), INsurance, valid Emission are what will be required. Paint condition, working of lights, horn, and to be safe, the wipers. The basic functionality is what will be checked.

You can do the conversion from electric shift to manual, at anytime.

Yup, you can definitely do that. Watch this video

Further ahead, you can get the Thar CRDe gearbox from scrap and install it for a proper manual gearbox

Yes, I understand that can be done. But who could do that in Bangalore or Kerala? I know many body shops. But when it comes to Solid mechanical fundamentals, I donít really know anyone.

Any recommendations?

This is awsome. Thanks for sharing. There are many owners with electric shift borg warner with the same problems.

Please do share the details.

There are a couple of owners I know who are keen to change the 'scroll button' system in their Safari dicors to a manual lever.

Please do share the contact number of the place/workshop. It will help numerous BW Owners out there.

I have shared a screenshot of the name of the garage and the address and mobile number. The technician's name is Sajith, a young Mechanical engineer. BTW this is custom made kit!

Re: Change electric 4x4 shift to a manual 4x4 lever?

Found this video on Youtube looks like a nice clean job done by the same workshop GK Customz.

I guess this mechanism is based on the Behemoth Kit. Glad that someone in India has finally cracked this.

Sorry for being negative.

But ScorpioN 4x4 owners should probably bookmark this thread.

Atleast they can use the OEM lever of the Thar
