Vamsi,

Which dealer did you buy it from? I will try to get it returned or try to get someone who wants to install them on their Jeep. Call me on 98850 71025.

re: Lambda Free Wheeling Front Hubs for Jeeps

Hi,

Today I went to Kashmiri Gate to buy Lamda FWH for my Gypsy. I went to Rajsthan Auto Parts - the authorized dealer for Lamda, and he told me Lamda hasn't delivered those to him since last 5 years. I called up Lamda and talked to somebody who understood only Kannada, no Hindi or English :-(

So I drove to Mayapuri and bought a pair of used Aisin hubs from Pali Motors. Though they were very dirty, mechanically looked very good without any apparent damage. He quoted 1800 for them plus 200 for cleaning and fitting.

I bought them, and after thorough cleaning they looked as good as new. But the locking/unlocking could be done only by pliers, not hands. Mechanic told me it'd ease up over time.

But the front propeller shaft is still rotating. I thought that since now the wheel isn't rotating the axle, the shaft too shouldn't rotate. I discussed this with mechanic and Jai of Pali Motors but they too weren't sure. It was already 7:30 PM; and being Karva Chauth, I had already got two howlers from wifey, so left.

Please tell me whether it is ok for the shaft to rotate even when the FWH is in free position? Or they aren't working at all?

Cheers

Nitin

Hey Nitn, It appears that the FWH is defective! The front shaft should NOT Rotate when in 2WD mode and FWH in free mode!

Yes, I thought so :-(

Is there any way I can find out which one of the two is defective?

Thanks

ntomer,

Lift/ jack the front two wheels enough to freely rotate.
Ensure: Engine off.
Gear position: 4H (Main GB in 4th , Aux in high ).
Hand rotate the wheel one by one to see which one is rotating the shaft.
If both wheels are rotating the shaft, both need replacement.

The rotation is not going to be free but it is enough to make the shaft move. The wheel that makes the shaft move has a faulty hub or fitting.

Make sure your arrows are green to green (free position).

Hope you have done each fitting as per procedure and secured it with the locking clip.

Spray WD40 inbetween the rotating disc on the hub as dirt inbetween it also makes them hard to rotate. Re engage and dis engage the aux. gear and see if it is still hard and needs a pliers.

Hope, finally the Karva Chauth went off well, and may you live very long.

You must explain that a Jeep is a guys 'year long Karva Chauth'.
Makes us skip many meals through the year, we to fast for our Jeeps don't we?.

Just curious - why I need to put it in 4H. I can check it even in neutral-2WD, no? Lift both the wheels on jack and check which one is rotating the shaft.

Were they fixed after removing the cover, or it can be done without it's removal?
