hi-lift kits are available in bangalore from adventure one..an off roading/camping equipment store.
he has good stuff for 4X4's winches,bull guards, lights etc.
A bit pricey but well known brands

To be honest, I am not sure. But either ways, it should not be too difficult for an aftermarket specialist to execute this mod, if you import the lift kit.

I have only seen lift kits for coil spring suspensions. Basically the kit contains longer springs and shocks.

How does lift kits work with vehicles with leaf springs?

Guys , Any idea when the TATA XENON pick up s hitting the market .. ? Also what engine is it planning to use ... and hope they price it right coz thats ne machine I just may get tempted to splurge on ;-) .

I think they launch it sometime this year. Pricing should be less than 9 Lacs I would say. Also they have launched it in Thailand with the 2.2 engine.

Here is what I picked out from another thread on T-BHP on the Xenon -

Xenon XT (Cross Terrain):

The new Xenon XT (Cross Terrain) is a lifestyle pick-up with stylish looks, comfortable interiors and 4 x 4 off-road capabilities. Xenon XT has an electrical shift-on-the-fly mechanism for the 4x4 application with limited slip differential.

The vehicle has charcoal grey interiors and can comfortably seat 5. It offers a loading volume of 870 L. If offers car like comfort and convenience features like power steering, power windows, central locking, HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning), electrically adjustable side rear view mirrors and height adjustable seat belts. It also comes equipped with an engine immobiliser, seat belt warning & door open warning, 16 inch alloy wheels and tubeless tyres.

Seems so ... I mean by looking at guys posts it does seem it is gonna get launched here . I wonder if the Govt of Delhi will still want the pick up registered as a commercial vehicle :Frustrati ???

The thing to be seen will be if they do price it well ... being one of the early guys I hope they price it low so that more people go for it :D

Khaadu, You should go for the 4x4 version of the Xenon when it is released here.
I had a chance of sitting in it and the driver seat position is very car-like. It comes with the 3.0 DICOR engine, i believe. And TATA are looking to make it non-commercial.
Once you've bought it, order the lift kit from our italian friends. :)

Nitrous , Thanx for the info .. Im definitely gonna wait and I hope it does come out sometime soon this year . I need to buy a 3rd vehicle for myself and have been post poning it as I just cant seem to like anything yet . Was thinking of a 2nd hand Hilux also if nothing else .

Did you drive it as well ?? Does it give a good feel from the inside or have they copmpromised on build quality ? The 3.0 DICOR engine should make it pretty peppy as the SAFARI with that engine was pretty impressive as well .

Can anyone give a better idea about its launch date/month ??

And who are the Italian friends you referring to ??

Hi all,

Lifting a Tata TL is exactly the same as lifting a mitsu or a toyota with IFS.
With good size tires is going to look pretty much as an american truck.
Up to a reasonable 5cm or 2" you can extend rear leaf springs shackles, very simple 2 steel bars longer than original and job done. At the front, charge the torsion bars up to the maximum. Then you can go for a body lift of about 5 to 7 cm. For the TL you need 14 alluminium teflon or naylon spacers, replace the original bolts, move radiator and a few other parts add 4 shocks with longer extension and job is done. With both mods you can accomodate 32" tires with good offset rims. Naturally the job can be done on a Safari too, as the system is exactly the same. If you want go more than 5cm it is a bit more hard but not impossible, rear: different leaf springs and a slight different angle of the axle position, longer shackle and shocks are mandatory. front: you need a ball joint spacer and reposition of differential with spacers, also you have to mod. the H bar on the frame...
All is possible is just a metter of work. Have a look to my id photo, I haven't changed anything yet, just reshaping leaf springs and torsion bars loading...
I'll go for the above mods for the future if time and money permit!

Forget to say that lifting rear Safari is different because coil springs, but essentially the same, spacers for the coil springs rather then longer shackle...

P.S. Xenon is sold in Italy with 2.2 dicor...

WHOA .. An inhouse modifier !! Thats a lot of knowledge but getting it done here would be the issue but of late Ive noticed quiet a few jeep freaks around who Im sure would be able to guide someone doing such a Mod to the right capable guy .

Ignazio @ Hi .. By doing a lift job what exactly happens to the stability or unstability of the vehicle ? Also the job that you described .. is it anyone job or would we need some special guys to get it done . Im running to your garage to see what all is parked in there and Im hoping to find some rugged jeeps .

This thread is getting interesting ... just need Tata to launch the Xenon :-)

Edit - just saw your post .. have you any feedback on the 2.2 Xenon and its off road capabilities ?? Also any chance of seeing a modded Xenon lifted like the American counterparts ?

I'm lazy, lol, my garage is still empty, will do soon...
Stability does change, but not very much.
To increase extension of front I get rid of front sway bar. Bending is more swinging but in any case the TL is not that kind of truck you speed race with lol...
The torsion bars loading increase the stiffness of the whole front and so it does the higher/reshaped leaf spring at the rear. But as mentioned above, I'm not a racer with a TL! The purpose of higher GC is to go past obstacles while offroading ;-)
If you have a minimum tools and working capability you can do it at home apart from reshaping the leaf springs...
All in all, if you go for just a mild setup of +5 suspension, +5 body lift, and tires, you have a good GC, still good drive on tarmac (reasonable) and an impressive look!
Xenon offroad capability seem to be the same as TL (read a review on a magazine) personally I think front bumper plastic will be the first to go lol. I have tried one yet, but I like it very much.
