The head gasket leak must have been very small else you would have had no trouble figuring out the problem yourself. The symptoms would have been more obvious.

Behram to the rescue! Well done, clever fox.

First let me drop the sir and ji since Beham is only 23, by the way I am 18 going by that logic.

I got my Jeep yesterday, I couldn't reply since I was busy. The total bill came Rs.38960 thanks to two pages of spares parts.

They forgot to do the radiator measurements. So I measured the radiator thickness using my son's scale. I measured everything in millimeter to get maximum accuracy.

Height: 310mm
Width: 470mm
Thickness: 40mm
Vertical pipe thickness: 2mm (55 pipes in total)
Gap between vertical pipes: 7mm
Gap between horizontal fins: 4mm

Regarding the cublic capacity of the radiator, they didn't measure, and I am stuck there.

The radiator capacity must be around 15 litres IMO

Samurai, you are an engineer, but looks like MBA has robbed you of your engineering skills. Fill water in radiator, that will tell you cubic capacity. Simple

My hands-on engineering skills are not in automobiles, but software design.

I thought about doing it, but I am not exactly sure I'll put back the radiator hose back in correctly after draining it.

Depending on how he fills it. If can locate the drain nut (if there is one) on the bottom reservoir of the radiator, he may get an accurate reading - provided water from block etc. does not come back into the radiator when it goes empty.

@samurai, pulling out the hoses should not be a big deal. There will be a clip whre the hose connects with the radiator. Loosen it with a screwdriver. There will be a screwdriver controlled "lock" mechanism to tighten the hose. Just loosen the screw and pull out the hose. This will require some brawn power. You are dealing with fabric lined 1/4 inch (approx) thick rubber.

While putting it back, make sure there is enough overlap between the rubber and the place where the tube connects (1 1/2 inch or more); and make sure the ciip is real tight. Once the job is finished, have a good look at the points you have tinkered with while the engine is running.

Dear Samurai - Radiator is not original, fin density is very poor, your data clearly says so. Please change it. Richie's guys will help you out with an original one, I will try and see if I can get you the part number.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

OK Behram, I'll talk to them. May be this is what caused the excessive heating that cracked the head.

I also need to talk to them to get a letter stating the invoice value of a 1994 CJ340 DP model. I can't register without it.

Go for a new one Sharath. I told you about this before. Second hand or local made radiator is always a suspect.

Dear Sharath - when I purchased my brand new CL340DP4WD (MH01P8300) on 3 January 1995, I paid Rs.2,69, 292.00 on the road in Mumbai. Just for your information, it may come useful to you. Also for your information, I sold my car exactly one year afterwards as I needed the money for my house (sob sob).

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

The plate behind the steering on my Jeep says CJ340DP, may be because it was CJ until 1994? So I should be able to get an invoice statement to that effect from the local dealer right? I'll call them anyway.

I asked the Mahindra service advisor to order the original radiator, and I also asked my town mechanic to take back the radiator he put.

Head could also have cracked if cold water had been poured into an overheated engine, and the engine wasn't running.
