Vamsi.
for offroad use, it is not necessary to change the differentials & TC.
I still have not changed it on my 416
You can easily accommodate taller tyres in such a setup and compensate the lower final drive.

Installing taller tyres in a stock gypsy drivetrain(410 or 413) demands crawler gears to be installed to prevent loss of torque.

If u r planning to retain stock tyre size, options 3 & 4 are mandatory.

I hope that this will 'improve' once I upsize my wheels

Experts please suggest tyre upgrade options.
One more reason why I want to go for the 1.6 conversion, just returned from a 2500 km drive, got a average of 9 km. BTW I have a 1.3 king carb with 235 rubbers

Neat engine bay you have there, so all the electrical glitches are over or are they dying down one by one?

I had 215/75 shoes .

Thanks. Credit goes to ashvar87 & Karthik (the mech)

The VSS input to the ECM is null. So check engine light is on.
Otherwise 416 is doing good.

Will post Picts of phase 2 mods soon.
Cabin
Covered boot
Winch bumper
Rock sliders
& new paint coat.

Re: Project MG 416 W

Replied your PM buddy.

Have more info for you Buddy.

In the BIG coupler attached to the rear of the meter, you will find a Brown Wire with Yellow stripe(Second/Third wire from one of the corners). Well this is the wire you are looking for.

Hope this helps you further.

Speedo(410w's) is in working condition.
It doesn't have integrated VSS, hence can't give the VSS signal.

I need to get mpfi king's combination meter to fix this bug.

Will post Picts of new paint scheme and cabin soon.
I found an ac mechanic who agreed to mount condenser under the chassis.

Re: Project MG 416 W

So Sree, did you also do a highway run like Allan had done? Whats the Top Speed you go to with the Falcon? Is there anything thats different between what you and Allan have done, asking this since i know you guys were in touch helping each other out.

I did test falcon on road. but not extensively as Alan did.
First gear is ultra low. I could easily take off from stand still in second gear & falcon briskly shifts to top gear. I can compare it to driving an RX100.
Relaxed cruising speed was 60kmph
Top speed was 120kmph. (without deducting speedo error)

Off the road the gear ratios were comfortable
I felt the need of taller tyres on highways to increase the final drive.by the time my vacation was over & i shelved the project.

I dont know if Alan did change his transfer case & axles ratios.
Alan had taller tyres & extended shackles. Falcon had stock suspension & tyres.
Both have FFE & performance filters. but done by different tuners.
Falcon's FFE is tuned for low end torque & I wanted to have a low note .So i guess its more restrictive than Alan's

VSS bug is yet to be fixed in Falcon. I am waiting for MASS to deliver King's meter console.

Initiated the second phase of project few months back.
Falcon was stripped to bare metal( tub off the chassis), tinkered & given anti rust coat.
1.5 inch body lift was done
Lockable cabin was fabricated
better seats were made
New paint coat ( pearl white + matte black)

Winch bumpers & rock sliders from swastik fabs are ready to be installed
31 inch tyres & new alloys are also in pipeline

Will post WIP pictures in detail.

At present FALCON looks like this

Re: Project MG 416 W

Cabin looks very neat from what i can see. Could you post more snaps of the whole vehicle, would help note the dimensions of the cabin you have prepared. plus i always wanted to ask you or allan regd the difference in the topspeed of both your vehicles.

Keep posting pics Sree, it keeps us glued.

Cheers,
Raj

Re: Project MG 416 W

Are you using the Baleno Engine wiring and the Baleno ECU ? Also what are the instruments that you are using ? Using the 410 meters or using other meters ?

Its best if you use baleno wiring & ECU if you are going for a full baleno engine swap , or if you are just changing the baleno bottom to a stock MPFI 1.3 engine you can retain the original 1.3 wiring & ECU . 410 meter console can be used & if you are going in for a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) then you will have to use Gypsy MPFI meter console.

The base car would be a 1.3 Carb and the Engine is a Euro III Baleno with ECU and wiring. There are problems with the cam position sensors apparently on many cars with the Baleno ECU and wiring & RPM fluctuation problem. Another way to go about it using the Gypsy Wiring and ECU along with the gypsy cam position sensor so that the meters work and also there are no problems in the RPM fluctuation.

Looking for more inputs.
