Why not try sourcing a used MM550 or a MM540 tub and then modifying that a little. This way wouldn't you save a big wad of cash??

Or maybe I am missing something here.

If you can wait for a month or two, you can get brand new body shells off the shelf from Mahindra.

AFAIK we can buy cj5 body in Hyderabad around 30~50k.
i think it will be better than converting 540 body tub. i can also order as per my requirement & chassis mountings.

The hint is that Thar will be launched within 2-3 months. So body shells of Thar/540 will be made available by M&M, isn't it?

Any idea on the M&M price of new tub? Curious to know how it compares to the local market tubs.

Re: New body shell for MM540

Reviving this old thread, But where can I get a CJ5 body? I read a few of you posted that some people fabricate them, are they fabricated from salvaged cj5's or from donor 540's?

how exact are they?

Dhanushs: Wrong, IMO Kurla market have body shell for all jeeps...except CJ5 and CJ6. You can easilly get CJ5, CJ6 shell in Bhopal, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jodhpur etc... there may be few other places which i don't know.

Oh. Is it?. Thanks for the info. When I enquired the guy at janseva mentioned that he does all Jeep's and the cost for body + painting + full upholstery including seats come to around ~70k.

I'll confirm with him.

Dear ALL,

I have been enquiring across various M&M dealerships for a MM-540 tub but all say it's not possible to procure one. I would like to know if a Thar DI tub will be suitable on a non-NGCS MM-540 chassis. Spike/DB Sir please throw some light.

Regards,

Chengappa.

Chengappa - The 540 tub is available in the market. I have recently got the entire rear body shell shipped Kerala to coorg and paid around 28,000/-. This was not for M&M dealer thou.

Check out..

Re: New body shell for MM540

Dear Mr.Chengappa - I empathise with you for recieving the "standard" reply from the dealership. I am not surprised. The body mounting location point dimensions are same for NGCS / non NGCS chassis as the basic MM / Armada / Bolero platform is common. There are 4 holes in the cross member on the body which locates in front of the rear wheels. Two are dummies for production Thar CRDe / DI vehicles, but they must be used for non NGCS application. That's the reason why I have retained them. There are minor differences between the Thar CRDe / Thar DI bodies, the CRDe tool box is on the LH side whereas the DI toolbox is on the RH side. Seat mountings are different as seats are different. DI uses Bolero Maxitruck seats, whereas CRDe uses Bolero VLX seats. For one vehicle, you can make local changes and adapt, no issue there. When I did Thar project, one of the business opportunities in my mind was to tap the body shell market which has very good potential due to sheer MM540 volumes running in India. By the way, demand for Thar domestic is steadily rising and it far exceeds the production capacity to churn out numbers, so they may not actually divert a body for spare parts requirement.

So, tell the dealer that as the vehicle is in production, there will be a body shell part number, ask him to order. By the way, if that part number specifies BIW (Body in White), you will get it without any surface treatment. Ask him if he can get the spare parts body shell part number with paint. Also ask him the dress level, means will fenders, bonnet etc be included? There may also exist a body part number with trim complete, then trim and seats complete etc. Keep your fingers crossed and PRAY. That's all I can say. Try your luck, God may actually favour you! It is because of this lack of clarity that dealers refuse this business and lose out on profit.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
